Position Summary:
The Ceramics and Sculpture Studio Assistants (two) are responsible for assisting faculty in the oversight, maintenance, and organization of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.'s ceramics and sculpture facilities. The assistants provide instruction and technical support for faculty teaching in the facilities, assist with maintenance, and ensure safe operation of the lab space and related equipment and supplies. These positions facilitate and monitor open lab times, help tutor students in areas of difficulty, perform lab related tasks such as loading and unloading kilns, and keep the Department informed of supply inventory. This is a part-time hourly pool.
Terms of Employment:
Upon hire, must pass security inquiry which may include criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
Employees must maintain Oregon or Washington residency as a condition of employment.
Part-time hourly positions will not exceed 900 working hours per fiscal year
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Assist Faculty, Dean, and Program Chair in the oversight of ceramics and sculpture studio spaces, equipment, and supplies.
Work with ceramics and sculpture faculty to support classroom activities and coordinate open lab schedules.
Collaborate with work-study students assigned to Ceramics and Sculpture.
Work closely and cooperatively with faculty to prepare and set up labs according to their needs.
Mount rotating exhibitions of student work in display cases.
Maintain consistent and effective communication.
Monitor and maintain studios and equipment, making minor repairs and requesting major repairs when necessary.
Oversee access for those qualified to use the studio (students, volunteers, work study students, faculty, visitors, and staff).
Manage inventory and organize supplies.
Order supplies and arrange for pick-up and unloading of supplies as necessary.
Load and unload kilns.
Recycle clay on site with an industrial pug mill and package for use.
Prepare glazes and monitor usage.
Oversee plaster-casting facility.
Ensure safe studio practices are followed, including creating and posting signage.
Maintain a clean and safe studio space.
Review and maintain safety systems on a set schedule, including fire extinguishers and eye flush stations.
Provide routine safety inspections.
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
College coursework in studio art or ceramics
General office, education, or art studio experience with substantial public contact and/or customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree with coursework in studio art, especially ceramics.
Knowledge of 2D and 3D art techniques, processes, and studio production.
Experience in clay and glaze mixing, kiln loading and firing, mold making, plaster casting, sculpture practices such as mixed media assemblage, and light fabrication.
Experience tutoring or training others, especially in the visual arts.
Experience supporting 3D media area equipment and materials.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Bilingual
