Position Summary: **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and engaging leader to serve as Dean of the STEM Department beginning in June of 2022. Though a bachelor’s degree will suffice, the ideal candidate for this full-time position will have a master’s degree and at least six years of experience teaching in a STEM-related field. Experience in both project-based learning and Understanding by Design (UbD) are also preferred. The School seeks passionate and energetic candidates who will guide a comprehensive re-design of the STEM curriculum, and lead the department in fine tuning its interdisciplinary design with a focus on mastery. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include: Specific responsibilities of this role include curriculum development in all STEM disciplines, teaching across two disciplines in STEM and leadership of the STEM department. The successful candidate will have broad knowledge of and experience with high school science and math instruction. Additional responsibilities include chairing department meetings, management of department professional evaluations, and aiding the Academic Counselor in student and faculty course assignments. The Dean of STEM must: Teach four STEM courses, one course each academic quarter. Participate in professional development to promote self-growth, build relationships and remain current with STEM specific programs, policies, and practices that meet the needs of students. Participate in academic planning meetings, academic department meetings, and Team/Faculty meetings. Be available to assist during study hall twice a week in the evenings. Fulfill other customary duties of faculty at the school: residence house supervision coaching/sports supervision dining hall supervision weekend duties advisor to students participation in all other co-curricular programs of the school, including chapel PSL License Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School or the Chief Programs Officer Support the School and its leadership Conditions: Available now through June 30, 2023. Contracts are issued on a yearly basis. The Dean of STEM reports to the Chief Programs Officer and has at least one performance evaluation during the course of the school year. Qualifications and Skills Needed Bachelor's degree in Math, Science or related STEM field, a teaching certificate or equivalent professional experience which would translate to successful classroom teaching. Six years of Math, Science or STEM teaching experience. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents. Collaborates well with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies. Promotes the use of multiple methods in solving problems, identifying more efficient strategies and generalizing principles to a broad variety of applications. Encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning, and to consider multiple perspectives when solving problems. Invests in the life of the School by participating in the advisory program, social and emotional learning, weekly department meetings, and team meetings.
