invites applications for a
Temporary
Instructor
for the summer session (May 22-Aug 4) .
Instructors within the English Language Institute (ELI) are held to a high professional standard of academic responsibility that values compassionate teaching, an active interest in the current best practices within the field of TESOL, and participation in the review and continuing improvement of the program. The obligations contracted for ELI instructors are consistent with those set out for the faculty employed at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***..
Essential Duties
Provide in-person classroom instruction per contracted dates and times.
Collaborate to develop syllabi and daily lesson plans that follow the established curriculum.
Compile and maintain syllabi, lesson plans, and reflections in the institute’s shared files.
Follow ELI policies for student attendance, grading, and assessment.
Submit a representative weekly schedule, which includes two office hours (either in-person or virtual), to the Academic Director by the first day of classes.
Attend meetings for lesson evaluation, planning sessions, and other required faculty meetings.
Dedicate time to the evaluation of learners as well as the curriculum and program, administering assessment tools as needed.
Evaluate and communicate student progress throughout the course to students.
Advise students who are struggling or having problems succeeding in class.
Cooperate and collaborate with the Academic Director, Program Assistant, Faculty Assistant, ELI colleagues, and other GEO staff.
Report directly to the Academic Director.
Additional Duties and Service
Be responsible for ELI duties assigned by the Academic Director, such as maintenance of the ELI library, recruitment and assignment of conversation partners, and/or administration of iTEP exams.
Participate in the assessment of the effectiveness of existing program design, curricula, and materials and make recommendations for necessary adjustments.
Remain current on new developments and trends in the field of TESOL, and give or attend workshops or lectures for ELI faculty.
Advocate for ELI and international students at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. to foster their successful integration in academic and social activities, whenever possible.
Required Skills
Familiarity with innovative approaches to language teaching
Genuine commitment to students, teaching, and the profession
Native-like proficiency in English
Minimum Required Experience
Advanced degree (master’s) with a specialization in TESOL or related field
At least 2 years of successful ESL/EFL professional teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
120-hour TESOL/TEFL certification
International teaching experience
