Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President for Student Life, the Director for Student Life and Leadership provides leadership, vision and strategic direction for the programs, activities and functions of the Matador Involvement Center (MIC). The incumbent effectively administers a broad range of fiscal, policy and personnel processes for a diverse staff of professional, paraprofessional and student employees to ensure the successful delivery of co-curricular programs and services in alignment with the University's goal to successful engage students within a dynamic, inclusive and vibrant campus community.
• Advances and administers multifaceted programs, services and initiatives supporting recognized club and organizations, co-curricular activities and collaborations, service-learning and volunteer programs, and student leadership development initiatives within a large and diverse campus community.
• Collaborates with a wide variety of administrative and academic departments across the university as well as off-campus community partners to develop, implement and assess of a broad array of programs and services designed to enhance students' involvement, learning and leadership development.
• Fosters and cultivates an engaging, productive and welcoming culture within the department/department programs and services that actively promotes inclusion, equity and social justice.
• Provides leadership and guidance for a team of professionals who support 300 student clubs and organizations (including fraternity and sorority organizations); oversees and supports compliance with all polices and procedures governing student involvement, including system-wide and university recognition processes.
• Oversees, supports and educates students and campus communty regarding policies and procedures related to time, place and manner; similarly advises regarding student/organization rights and responsibilites.
• Develops and advances opportunities to enhance leadership development and volunteer/community service program opportunities for diverse student population; encourages and ensures development of co-curricular programming and the use of volunteer opportunities as vehicles for learning, service and engagement.
• As a leader, demonstrates a commitment to student success that is mission aligned with the university's vision, values and priorities. Establishes an ethical and collegial work environment, promoting a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team. Encourages a courageous and resilient solution-oriented environment by participating in new opportunities to further the mission of the university. Participates in developing initiatives that further support the campus mission with a service-oriented and catalytic mind set. Strengthens employees by being communicative and a talent builder that develops team attributes, furthering departmental goals.

• Earned Master's within Student Affairs or related field in higher education, including college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling or other related degree.
• Five years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience in student activities, student leadership or related student affairs departments required; with 2 of the five years in a managerial role.
• Experience providing student advisement within student governance structures such as elected student governance boards, Greek letter organization councils, or clubs/organizations assemblies.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Leadership
• Knowledge of student development theory as well as current issues, trends, challenges and best practices related to student involvement and engagement.
• Leadership experience in the development and management of a comprehensive student services program, preferably within functional areas of position.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse, urban higher education setting; effectively advise student leaders, develop student leadership experiences and collaborate with others to facilitate successful outcomes of these initiatives.
• Ability to facilitate the use of co-curricular programming, leadership development and volunteer opportunities as vehicles for both learning and service; develop student learning outcomes and program outcomes strategies, as well as assessment strategies that capture program impacts as related to student development, persistence, and successful graduation.
• Specialized skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a wide variety of backgrounds to provide information and guidance in responding to issues of Time, Place and Manner and student actions/spontaneous actions; analyze complex situations, exercise sound judgment in evaluating facts and determining appropriate actions; interact and communicate with wide range of individuals holding competing interests/concerns while clarifying policies and procedures.
• Lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
• Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
• Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
• Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.
