We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced technician to join our team in this central University facility, presenting an excellent opportunity for a motivated technician to fulfil their potential. You will deputise for the Technical Head to provide management of a team of research facility animal technicians, to deliver and continue to develop high quality research facility support that meets the evolving needs of customers. You will take on the role of Named Training and Competency Officer for the facility with the aim to continue to develop and implement robust training schedules compliant with the legislation.
Duties will include
To deputise for the Technical Head who, is responsible for the BRU research facility that supports the needs of students, researchers, commercial clients and teaching as required.
To carry out the statutory role of a Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer.
Undertaking the statutory duties of the Named Training and Competency Officer (NTCO). Responsible for ensuring that all those dealing with animals are adequately educated, trained and supervised until they are competent. Auditing the education, training, supervision and competency provision and processes being undertaken to ensure legislative compliance.
To ensure that University Health and Safety Guidelines are disseminated and implemented.
You must explain, in your application, how you meet the following criteria:
Skill level equivalent to achievement of a professional qualification e.g. National Diploma in Animal Care, HNC or MIAT in Animal Technology.
Significant practical knowledge of laboratory rodents, breeding colonies, IVCs, quality assurance requirements and barrier systems.
Extensive knowledge of a wide range of animal procedures
Extensive knowledge to identify gaps in health and safety and quality compliance and implement solutions.
Ability to liaise with colleagues internally to develop and establish long term relationships Ability to monitor and maintain excellent service provision with aptitude to identify and fill gaps and shortfalls in a timely fashion.
