Profile

SUMMARY
Special education teachers carry the responsibility of educating children in grades preschool to twelfth grade who are diagnosed with a number of physical, mental and emotional disabilities. They work with legally required federal paperwork called an IEP or Individualized Educational Plan that outlines the necessary supports, accommodates and goals for an individual child. These goals can encompass both academic and behavior concerns. These teachers also direct meetings with parents and staff regarding the plan and make necessary adjustments throughout the year. In the classroom they work with children who can vary from mild to severe disabilities using specialized techniques to help them reach their goals.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Case Manager for Special Education students
Manage and oversee the 504 program as directed
Provide direct services as needed to special needs students
Provide required instruction according to IEPs for students
Review and provide monthly snapshot of progress to Supervisor
Follow-up with providers to confirm that reports and services are being completed as scheduled
Provide updated testing charts, data, schedules, minutes, logs and other necessary information required to complete reports for TEA via email as needed to Special Education Supervisor
Be available to Special Education Families on an as needed basis via phone and email
Mail Prior Notices to parents as required
Schedule ARDS, set up meetings and follow up on attendees as required notify Sped Supervisor
Ensure all documents are ready prior to ARD meetings
Mail all required documents to parents one week before and after ARDS
Complete academic testing and reports as required
Obtain signatures are required
Hold transition meetings as required
Follow up with parental or teacher concerns
Work closely with Special Education Coordinator to report any concerns
Keep files in office complaint
Update Special Education data
Other duties as assigned by Principal, CEO/CAO/COO

Student Growth and Development:
Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization:
Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication:
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development:
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will have no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Data Driven Proven record of achievement as an elementary or middle school teacher
Stamina Ability to handle the intensity required to work I a high-performing charter school
Accountability- Ensure that joyful rigorous instruction is delivered to every student every day
Management Ability to manage the behavior in your classroom
Self-Reflection Ability to accept and implement feedback received for real-time improvement

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
As set by State Certification Authorities must have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university; possess three (3) years of teaching experience preferably in an urban setting.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written or oral form. Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel with effective public speaking skills before large groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations

REASONING SKILLS
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization may exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook including experience using them in a professional capacity.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.
