Project description:
The solid state physics of disordered semiconductors is quite different to traditional crystalline ordered equivalents such as silicon or gallium arsenide. This is particularly true for photovoltaic phenomena where disordered materials such as organic semiconductors are finding increasing application in targeted scenarios such as mobile or indoor power. This project focuses on improving our understanding of organic and other disordered semiconductors which are molecular in nature – and particularly addresses the processes that lead to photocurrent and photovoltage generation in light harvesting. The project will be a combined experimental-theoretical electro-optical study using state-of-the-art methods developed in the Sêr SAM group
in recent research efforts and will be closely linked to more fundamental work packages of the Swansea-led EPSRC Program Grant in Application Targeted Integrated Photovoltaics which will run for the duration of the project.
