Primary customers include the staff, physicians, patients/families and other members of the health care team.
As a member of the leadership team, monitors and maintains CAP standards of laboratory practice; maintains accountability for the assurance of appropriate staffing resources and provision of quality and timely work.
Acts as and represents Unit leadership when the Lab Manager is unavailable.
Demonstrates knowledge of and maintains processes in accordance with CAP and hospital guidelines. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
Participates in maintaining staff competencies through education, mentoring and role modeling.
Supports the Lab Manager in interviewing and hiring employees; training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and mentoring/coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, and employee discipline.Essential Functions
1. Provides direct
supervision of technical personnel in the absence of departmental lead techs or
lab manager, and all phlebotomy personnel.
2. Directly observes
staff, evaluates staff performance.
3. Monitors productivity,
makes assignments, creates schedule for the lab and assures that staffing and
resources are aligned with workload.
4. Communicates
personnel- related concerns to Lab Manager.
5. Uses a logical,
systematic approach to problems and problem-solving.
6. Maintains Department
Professional standards.
7. Maintains
confidentiality of information of the department.
8. Serves a LIS resource:
Inputs manual charges, reviews daily LIS reports and corrects charge
rejections, keeps CDM updated, updates tests in Meditech, maintains reference
lab interface.','!*!Education /
Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred): Required:
MT (ASCP) or equivalent.
Experience
(required and preferred): 2 years lab
experience. Previous leadership role
preferred.
