This post is a full time, 2 year fixed term position, and is within the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, in the Engine Modelling Team.
This is a new Research Assistant post to support the activities of the newly awarded H2 ICE research project, Innovate UK Smart Grant, which aims to develop a technology demonstrator of a new, innovative, zero-emission and high-efficiency internal combustion engine fuelled purely by hydrogen, and to contribute to relevant teaching activities within the School of ECM.
The role includes the following tasks:
The development and validation of a new comprehensive 3D CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) modelling protocol to support the development of the H2 engine demonstrator
Analyse data and prepare reports and presentations, for project meetings, and technical meetings with other project partners
Lead on the writing up and dissemination of research findings as conference proceedings and journal articles
Carry out teaching and assessment at undergraduate or postgraduate level on engineering programmes.
You should have:
Experience as an independent researcher, or postgraduate experience in industry or academia
Experience in engine modelling using CFD or other modelling software
Knowledge and understanding of internal combustion engines working principles, modern associated technology, pollutants formation and emission regulations
Teaching experience in mechanical/automotive/motorsport engineering at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels
Knowledge and use of statistical regression and optimisation techniques.
