We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join the team at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
Reporting to Dr Phalguni Rath, you will be part of the Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (IPSC) Laboratory, which is responsible for the culture, genetic manipulation and differentiation of human IPSCs into cortical neurons and brain organoids. You will work closely with Dr Lahiru Handunnetthi’s Group at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics to develop IPSC model systems as part of a genomics-led early drug discovery programme in schizophrenia. Similarly, you will manage own research and administrative activities and test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. You will also develop ideas for generating research income, and present detailed research proposals to senior researcher.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or stem cell related field. You will have experience in mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques such as preparation of genomic DNA, PCR and immunostaining. Experience of following and adapting protocols is essential, as well as experience selecting appropriate experimental methodologies. You will also have and excellent communication skills, including the ability to write text for publication.
