Location
Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.
Job Summary
Provides academic advising services to cohort of Football student-athletes and is responsible for managing, counseling and monitoring assigned student-athletes from admission to graduation throughout the college career. Interviews and advises students regarding information, procedures and academic requirements of a specific program or major. Oversees all football academic operations and ensures compliance with NCAA and ASUN rules and regulations concerning athletic academic eligibility. Responsible for reporting and monitoring academic responsibilities for all football student-athletes and overseeing academic staff that work with football.
Responsibilities
1. Manages assigned cohort of student-athletes designated by athletic sport team and are responsible for managing and counseling those students throughout the college career
2. Meets weekly with academically at-risk students and assists in strategies to become successful
3. Designs and teaches success skills to students as necessary on time management, organization skills and strengthening study skills
4. Works with student-athletes to develop holistically by promoting and integrating the FlightPlan to assist student-athletes seek out internships, job experiences and prepare for life after sports
5. Counsels students with personal, social, academic and educational concerns
6. Serves as the liaison to campus faculty and communicates official team travel requirements
7. Communicates on academic progress each semester and serves as an advocate for student-athletes as necessary
8. Communicates with student-athletes and coaches on the progress of meeting NCAA requirements for athletic academic eligibility
9. Participates in recruiting of student-athletes and is the primary contact person for the admissions process
10. Responds to inquires or connects student-athletes to appropriate resources concerning athletic financial aid, housing, Registrar, Student Conduct, Bursar or other obstacles that student-athletes encounter
11. Works with students starting in summer school to acclimate to KSU through programming and personal contact to assimilate into the athletic experience
12. Responsible for tracking, monitoring and reporting assigned student performance throughout the duration of each semester
13. Identifies needs and assigns tutors as necessary for academic success
14. Prescribes and monitors any needed study hall hours
15. Responsible for providing weekly reports on at-risk students, tutoring summaries and any additional information such as progress reports, important dates and academic information
16. Serves as the liaison with the office of disability services as needed for assigned students
17. Serves as a member of the NCAA certification team and each semester must review the eligibility status of all assigned student-athletes
18. Oversees and acts as a mentor to student staff and advising staff
19. Develops multi-semester degree planning following major curriculum guidelines, aligns students' academic interests and aptitudes with appropriate professional goals
20. Connects students with appropriate academic and non-academic student services that promote success
21. Maintains thorough and accurate documentation of individual advising sessions
22. Monitors the retention, progression and graduation of students within the assigned population and offers proactive outreach to assigned students
23. Oversees academic advising staff that support football
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
Required Experience
Four (4) years of experience as an academic advisor or closely related profession
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with NCAA rules and bylaws concerning eligibility
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Post-Secondary Education,
Preferred Experience
Experience working in Athletic Academic Advising
Experience working with Football or Men's Basketball

Able to work with a high-profile sport
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
Able to utilize and incorporate best practices identified through the analysis of reports and analytics related to advising activity, student success metrics, etc.
Able to meet formally with students to develop meaningful connections
KNOWLEDGE
Must be familiar with NCAA bylaw 14 and be able to ensure students are following requirements for eligibility
Must understand the student-athlete experience and unique culture including the rigor and demands of playing a Division I sport
Must be aware of NCAA policies and procedures of reporting Academic Progress Rate (APR) and be able to forecast potential implication of lost APR points
Must be able to apply NCAA rules and regulations to the advising process
Must become familiar with all degree programs on campus and graduation requirements
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
