Position Summary Suffolk University is one of the area’s leading universities and the only one situated in the center of Boston. Suffolk is beginning an exciting new era and building a comprehensive Advancement program to support the University and its plans for the future under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Advancement. The Office of Advancement has achieved significant fundraising success in the past five years and has surpassed several fundraising records and alumni engagement goals. Suffolk University’s Advancement Engagement programs are critical to advancing the University’s mission. Our Alumni Relations programs serve to engage and inform our current and future alumni, involve them as volunteers in meaningful ways, strengthen their pride in and attachment to Suffolk while building a culture of philanthropy. The Annual Giving program develops and implements comprehensive fundraising strategies for the engagement, acquisition, stewardship, retention and upgrading of donations from alumni, family, friends, corporations and foundations. In addition to generating flexible revenue they identify major and planned giving prospects, help maintain address and data integrity and convey important institutional messages. Under the direction of the Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director effectively manages a staff of student employees charged with contacting and soliciting alumni, donors, parents and friends of the University though the Student Philanthropy Center, with the goal of increasing financial support for Suffolk and informing constituents of current Suffolk news and events. The successful candidate serves as an inspirational leader, leading by example and motivating and coaching students to be engaging and dynamic representatives of Suffolk University to all of its stakeholders. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY FundraisingLead the student outreach/calling fundraising program with donors and prospects including selected Summa level prospects and donors.Work with the Director of Annual Giving to set fundraising goals and develop engaging campaigns.Coach and mentor student employees by example.Conduct outreach via phone, text and email to acquire new donors and renew lapsed donors.Caller Recruitment, Management, and CoachingLead the recruiting process and build a team of strong student philanthropy center employees.Create and maintain a highly effective student fundraising and engagement training program.Write effective solicitation scripts and keep them updated.Actively identify, train, and manage student employee leaders and supervise student philanthropy center employees.Develop appropriate incentives and motivational programs for student employees.Be present at calling/outreach shifts and actively monitor calls and triage when needed.Follow up with constituents as needed.Assist the Director in the development and management of the budget for the Student Philanthropy Center.Proactively research emerging trends and best practices in order to formulate and updated best practice policies and procedures for student outreach/calling program.List Management and Data trackingWork with Director of Annual Giving and Advancement Services staff to coordinate and manage the transfer of data to and from the Blackbaud systems and ensure the accuracy of those files.Track data trends and assess results to modify strategy as needed.Work closely with Advancement staff to identify segments and calling pools.Work with Advancement staff to manage the timely mailing of pledge confirmation letters and pledge reminders on a 30, 60, and 90 day reminder schedule.Review calling reports daily to assess calling efforts and work with the Director to maximize calling structure.Program DevelopmentWork in partnership with the Director of Annual Giving to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for the Student Philanthropy Center that aligns with the strategic goals of the University and fosters a culture of philanthropy within the student and alumni community.Create and develop an outreach plan for alumni events, follow up, and asks, when needed.Build a robust training program for student employees and develop possible tracks which students can follow for career development within Advancement.Use current and emerging technologies to supplement outreach efforts, including but not limited to Thankview and MobileCause.Develop additional student employee responsibilities in addition to fundraising, (alumni event outreach and follow up, data update calls, class gift representatives, Advancement stewards, etc.).Assist the Director and Advancement staff with other programs and projects as needed.Communicate program information within the division and with college constituencies.Work closely with Alumni Relations to identify, recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for special campaigns and events outreach.Provide support for division-wide projects.Lead and assist with Advancement events as needed.QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in Annual Giving or related field preferred.Experience supervising students and setting fundraising goals.Excellent customer service skills.Strong interest in the field of alumni relations and annual giving.Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and a strong commitment to help developing and implementing the University’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies and goals.Sense of urgency and enthusiastic commitment to Suffolk University’s Advancement priorities.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Superior organizational skills.Knowledge of Blackbaud’s GuidedFundraising preferred.Familiarity in Blackbaud’s Raiser Edge preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong skills in Excel.Highly professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.Must be available to work during evening hours when outreach/calling shifts are in session.Availability occasional weekend work is required.
