Profile

Description:
The School of Society and Culture (SSC) at University of Plymouth is looking to recruit two Grant Writers, 0.5 FTE each, to help us realise our ambitions for grant capture, including submissions to UKRI’s AHRC and ESRC, as well as Leverhulme, Wellcome etc. SSC is home to 17 disciplines with over 100 academic staff and 5 REF units: UoA 18 Law and Criminology, UoA 20 Social Work and Social Policy (including Sociology and Anthropology), UoA 27 English Literature and Creative Writing, UoA 28 History and Art History, and UoA 33 Music, Drama, Dance, and Performing Arts. School academics work broadly within the social sciences, the humanities, and the practice-based arts. You will actively advise and support SSC academics to secure funding to support their research. We are looking for experienced grant writers with a track record of helping academics win successful grants, who can work in both group and 1-to-1 capacity from start-up to final grant submission stages. The role will involve coordination of academics both within and outside UoP as well as a broad range of stakeholders including funding bodies and external partners (industry etc) on the preparation and development of applications for research funding. The role will support academics through all stages of writing a grant application, including: articulating the project, securing partners, costing the project, and data management plans. The role will involve working with the University’s ‘Research and Innovation’ team and will likely support the SSCs academics working within our key research themes of Social Justice, Heritage, Arts/Health, Eco-criticism/Environmentalism, and the Blue Humanities. We envision hiring two grant writers, at 0.5 FTE (18.5 hours per week) on a fixed-term basis for a period of 2 years. There is the possibility for the two 0.5 posts to be combined into 1 full-time post. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact the Associate Head of School Professor Anthony Caleshu by email ****. Interviews are likely to take place on Thursday 1st December 2022 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not. Anticipated start date is 1st January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities. A successful external candidate for this position would be employed by the University of Plymouth Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Plymouth. Employees of the University of Plymouth Services Limited work alongside the University of Plymouth colleagues in delivery of Plymouth’s strategic vision, and will adopt the University of Plymouth’s HR policies and procedures in full unless otherwise stated. The University of Plymouth is a diverse, welcoming community where everyone makes a difference and is encouraged to bring their whole selves to work.
