ESY Summer Program positions are open for current Tacoma School District contracted regular certificated staff only. External candidates will not be considered.
SPECIAL EDUCATION ESY PROGRAM (Extended School Year)
Program Dates: July 12 - July 28; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
Program Staff Hours: 8:00am - 1:30pm
Student Hours: 9:00am - 1:00pm
Staff Orientation Date: July 7, 2022; more information will be available once staff have been identified
Staff Set Up Date: TBD
PROGRAM SITE: Reed Elementary School
-The applicant system will require a resume/document be uploaded; simply attach a brief statement that you hold a Special Ed endorsement and have 3 years of SpEd teaching experience if you do not have a current resume.
Examples Of Duties
Role of the Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) teacher:
Attend staff day prior to the start to set up classroom, review ESY IEPs
Monitor ESY classroom program
Supervise implementation of SDI related to IEP goals of participating students
Other duties as assigned related to ESY program
Assist with breakfast/lunch distributions and supervision
SUMMARY:
This position plans, organizes, and monitors instruction and provides direct instruction for students with disabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans, organizes and provides learning experiences in such a manner as to best meet the needs of individual students as specified in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
2. Participates in the planning and evaluation of the school program.
3. Provides maximum learning opportunities to all students.
4. Supervises, directs and evaluates learning experiences of students in both curricular and extracurricular activities.
5. Provides guidance to students which will promote welfare, educational development, and citizenship.
6. Coordinates learning activities and strategies with colleagues in regard to specific student needs; uses services of ESA staff or other professionals as needed.
7. Completes and maintains all necessary records and reports as required by federal, state, and district laws and policies, such as IEPs, reports, an student evaluations, by required deadlines.
8. Uses academic and behavioral assessments and management strategies.
9. Maintains effective working relationships with students, colleagues, parents and community.
10. Provides a safe learning environment for students.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
1. Participates in business and activities of faculty, Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), and IEP meetings; attends staff meetings as called by the administrators; participates in in-service training and professional growth activities.
2. Provides for care and protection of school property.
3. Performs related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree with special education endorsement or evidence of special education credits with a standard certificate; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding the provision of special education services.
Knowledge of effective instructional strategies.
Ability to implement and adjust curriculum and instruction for students with disabilities.
Ability to maintain effective classroom management within a positive learning environment.
Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
Ability to obtain, clarify, and exchange information.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural, diverse socio-economic setting.
REQUIRED LICENSES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works with student who may demonstrate learning delays, and/or physical sensory impairment and/or behavioral/emotional reactions; may work extended hours to participate in MDT and IEP meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
-The selected candidate must be endorsed in Special Education, and commit to the entire 9 day program training/set up days.
-MANDT/Right Response certification required
-Three (3) years of special education teaching experience
Must be a current regular contracted teacher with TPS
