Description:
The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Physical Geography to contribute to research and teaching in the area of contemporary environmental change. You will demonstrate an ability to attract research funding and produce high-quality research outputs and / or impact. Teaching will be largely into undergraduate and postgraduate Geography programmes with the potential to contribute to at least one other of our programme areas (Chemistry, Environmental Science and Geology). We welcome applications from physical geographers with expertise in contemporary environmental change, in particular: environmental / landscape change; process geomorphology; remote sensing of earth systems. Links with industrial partners may also be an advantage. The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences comprises nearly 60 academic staff and enjoys excellent support from well-resourced laboratory facilities (including 16 technicians). As well as depth and breadth in and across our subject areas, we have strong academic links across the institution with for example the University’s Sustainable Earth and Marine Institutes. Our staff members hold research income in excess of £13m from all major funding providers, and teach around 1,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. All our degree programmes are professionally accredited and designed with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in mind. Staff and students work and study in the stunning natural landscape of south west England. Our national parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, characterful towns and cities, and 650 mile-long coastline provide the backdrop from which we address global sustainability challenges on land and at sea. The School holds an Athena SWAN Bronze award, demonstrating the University’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality and success for all. You will be an enthusiastic team player, and your enthusiasm for your area of expertise will extend to providing excellent teaching informed by scholarship, professional practice and your own research experience. You will be developing / have developed a track record of excellent academic research, commensurate with the level of appointment and compatible with one of the REF 2021 UoAs to which we returned staff (6, 7 and 14).
