JOB OVERVIEW
The School of Education in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services is seeking applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position specializing in research, teaching and mentoring related to qualitative and action research in the context of education and social science research. The prospective faculty member will have a primary appointment within the Research Methods area in the School of Education and is expected to maintain an active research agenda, teach graduate courses in qualitative and action research-related areas, mentor graduate students, secure extramural funding, and contribute to service activities.

 

The Research Methods area trains graduate students primarily through the Educational Studies MA and PhD programs across multiple concentration areas (Quantitative and Mixed Methods Research Methodologies; Educational and Community-Based Action Research) and serves the University with a significant range of Research Methods course offerings and through a wealth of research and training collaborations. The Research Methods area values diverse research approaches, and the methodological focus of current faculty includes participatory research, action research, mixed methods research, statistics, quantitative design, and measurement. 

 

We are seeking an innovative methodologist with a strong record of peer-reviewed scholarship in qualitative and/or action research who can contribute to a research methods program that values diverse methodological approaches.  Preference will be given to candidates whose scholarship contributes new understandings to the theory and/or practice of qualitative and/or action research.  Evidence of effective oral and written communication about research methods is preferred.  Scholarship that includes a focus on diversity, social justice, engagement science, and equity is desirable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Conduct and support research consistent with the Research Methods area and the School of Education. *Maintain an active research agenda and disseminate research results. *Teach graduate-level research methods courses in qualitative and action research, mentor students and supervise graduate student research. *Engage in university, professional, and program service, including participation in continuous program improvement and new program development, as appropriate.
 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
*An earned doctorate in an education or social science-related field (e.g., educational studies, educational psychology, education, psychology, sociology, anthropology, health promotion, family/youth studies, social work). *Evidence of expertise in research methods (qualitative, action research-related, mixed methods, etc.) through scholarly works (e.g., 1-3 publications in journals, presentations at [inter]national conferences). *Evidence of the ability to teach qualitative and/or action research methods (e.g.,1-3 years of experience with teaching as an instructor or teaching assistant).
