Description:
At the University of Plymouth, it is in our nature to innovate – be that in our teaching or in our research. We strive for the highest quality in all that we do; pushing boundaries isn’t just encouraged, it is expected. The University’s mission – advancing knowledge, transforming lives – is manifested in the compelling combination of first-class, innovative teaching, clusters of world-class research, and a commitment to widening participation and social inclusion, so that our students are supported and encouraged to unlock their true potential. We have a strong financial platform, and excellent and distinctive facilities supporting our research and teaching. We are currently midway through a £170m campus development programme which will see our campus and the surrounding area transformed over the next five years. We have embarked upon a ten-year strategy – ‘University 2030: A Future of Excellence’. This transformational journey has already begun, but there is more to do as we look to maximise our current core strengths, including our areas of internationally leading research, as well as responding to the changing needs and expectation of our students and the priorities of our city, region and global partners. The University’s 2030 strategy has an ambition to provide thought-leadership, set policy agendas locally, nationally and internationally, and to communicate and engage effectively with all stakeholders, achieving influence and impact through significant industry and business partnerships. The Research and Innovation Directorate plays a crucial role in supporting the University in these ambitions, working with academics from across the breadth of the institution’s portfolio. We have therefore created three new roles to help take this work forward; Head of Health Partnerships, Head of Environmental Sustainability Research Partnerships and Head of Regional and Civic Engagement. Reporting to the Director of Research and Innovation, and supporting the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health through the Faculty’s Associate Dean for Research, the Head of Health Partnerships will lead the University’s engagement with regional, national and international stakeholders relating to the University’s strengths in health research including NIHR, UKRI, NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Systems, care providers, other HEIs, policy makers, charities, and key industry partners. The aim is to ensure the University is proactively engaged with, and influential on, key health and care research agendas, is actively working to develop new multi-disciplinary partnerships and collaborations and is therefore well positioned to exploit funding opportunities to further its mission around health and care research and its translation. You will be engaged in scoping, coordinating, and contributing to the development of large, strategic awards. Future focused, you will also work with internal and external partners to identify priorities for the development of new, or the growth of existing, research areas. Politically astute, you will be able to develop and use strong regional, national and international relationships and networks and will have an in depth understanding of the HE, policy and health research and innovation funding landscape, as well as experience of working with academics and a range of senior stakeholders. Proven experience in building and maintaining positive and constructive strategic relationships with partners at a senior level at regional, national and international level is essential. You will have experience in scoping, coordinating and contributing to the development of successful large-scale strategic health research awards, as well as a successful track record of substantial income generation and partnership development. You will work closely with academic colleagues across the Faculty of Health, other R&I functions including Enterprise Solutions business engagement service and the Innovation Funding team, as well as other services including External Relations. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Adrian Dawson: Interviews are likely to take place week commencing Monday 20 March 2023 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not. This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis. Flexible working options including job share will be considered. We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities. A relocation package may be available to the successful candidate, conditions apply. A successful external candidate for this position would be employed by the University of Plymouth Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Plymouth. Employees of the University of Plymouth Services Limited work alongside the University of Plymouth colleagues in delivery of Plymouth’s strategic vision, and will adopt the University of Plymouth’s HR policies and procedures in full unless otherwise stated.
