The Faculty of Science and Engineering at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. seeks a dynamic and experienced individual to manage the Marine Biology technical team within the School of Biological and Marine Sciences (SoBMS). As the Marine Biology Technical Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the technical team within a thriving area of the University, this will be achieved by coordinating your team and leading by example to provide support for both teaching and research activities. Your Responsibilities Embedded within a collaborative team under the guidance of the Technical Manager, you will be responsible for: Leading, managing, and developing all aspects of the Marine Biology technical team Maintaining, providing, and developing specialist skills in order to support teaching, research and enterprise within the School, Faculty and wider University Managing and maintaining all equipment within marine biology facilities Training and supervising staff and students working within marine biology facilities Taking responsibility for all aspects of Health & Safety associated with the marine biology facilities, including the provision of all relevant documentation Your Qualifications and Experience To excel in this role, you should possess: A marine biology degree or equivalent Experience of leading, managing or supervising a team Experience of operating, calibrating, troubleshooting and repairing scientific equipment Experience of laboratory Health & Safety e.g. COSHH and Risk Assessments Experience in husbandry of a variety of tropical and temperate marine/aquatic species, both vertebrate and invertebrate including rearing of live foods. Experience of deploying equipment from boats Full UK driving license Your Personal Attributes We seek an individual who is skilled in: Knowledgeable of marine species identification both in the laboratory and in the field Able to engage students and colleagues and motivate and inspire them to perform at their best Molecular techniques e.g. DNA/RNA extraction, RT, PCR, qPCR Constructing and designing mesocosm experiments and manipulating environmental factors e.g. temperature, salinity & gases Ability to effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring alignment with overall goals and objectives A current full driving licence (manual transmission) is essential as you will be driving University of Plymouth vehicles. This role is also subject to health surveillance with our Occupational Health team.
