Department of Anthropology
and
SS 244 Archaeology Laboratory
(Dixon Lab) invite applications for a
Postdoctoral Research Associate
to join their team. This is viewed as preparation for a full-time academic and/or research career. The appointment requires full-time research which results in publication, teaching two undergraduate/graduate courses per academic year, and public education and outreach. Scholars who are particularly committed to multimodal, collaborative, and community-based approaches in research and teaching are of particular interest. The research associate will work extensively on collaborative research projects and public outreach initiatives which they should have the interest and ability to create and maintain. Scholars whose work involves social justice and/or contributes to interdisciplinary conversations about decolonizing and democratizing the discipline of archaeology will receive especially close attention as will those who have a demonstrated record of research, teaching, and service within their previous university and/or community.
The postdoctoral research associate will need to exhibit the ability to work independently while also supervising and mentoring students as director of the historical archaeology lab. As lab director the postdoctoral research associate is responsible for day to day operations in the lab, lab space assignment and supervision of students, interns, and volunteers.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program
Salary for this position is $43,000 - $45,000 per year commensurate with qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must hold a doctorate or be in ABD status with the final draft of dissertation completed within the first 90 days of the post-doctoral period
Demonstrated research interests that include but are not limited to urban archaeology, archaeology of buildings and/or historic preservation as it relates to issues of social justice, and expanding and advancing public/community archaeology
Experience as an instructor of undergraduate anthropology/archaeology courses (Please include a list of courses taught previously)
Digital public outreach experience (i.e. demonstrated skills on various social media platforms)
Archaeological survey, excavation, supervision of a field crew, and data management in the field and lab
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to handle public relations and interactions with various forms of media (i.e. press releases, local television, radio, online, and print media)
Skills with Historic American Building Survey quality mapping and reporting, with AutoCAD experience preferred
Skills with Past Perfect or comparable cataloguing software
Experience with UM’s Banner system and related advising policies
Experience working with communities in western Montana
