General Description of Position:
The Assistant
Public Safety Lead is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all persons who occupy college facilities. The Assistant Public Safety Lead will identify existing or potential security or safety concerns and utilize the appropriate resources to resolve the issue in a timely manner. The Assistant Public Safety Lead will also, when necessary, complete investigations and required documentation to ensure quality service and compliance with applicable laws and college policy. The Assistant Public Safety Lead will work to ensure that Campus facilities are adequately staffed and resourced in order to meet the campus community’s needs for safety, security, and asset protection. The Assistant Public Safety Lead, and reports directly to the campus Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness (PSEP) Lead.
Major Responsibilities:
Assists the PSEP Lead in managing the Public Safety department which is staffed with employed and contracted officers
Staffs all shifts, including weekends for 24hrs / day coverage.
Proactive in identifying issues relevant to campus public safety.
Investigates incidents and recommends specific action.
Develops, implements and communicates complex campus wide safety and security plans and interventions.
Investigates department personnel issues and issues disciplinary action in coordination with the campus PSEP Lead
Initiates and provides appropriate in-service training to the security officers and other campus stakeholders as directed.
Responds to emergency situations and coordinate response activities with local, state and federal authorities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in a related field or substantial equivalent work experience in the security/public safety area is required.
Five (5) years related work experience is required.
Three (3) years of supervisory experience is required.
Must be able and willing to travel to all Ivy Tech Indianapolis Service Area locations.
Physically able to handle emergencies and/or persons involved in an incident.
Must be computer literate in Microsoft word, excel, PPT and security related programs.
Must have and exhibit diplomacy to deal with students, employees, and visitors.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Exhibit high level of professional and investigative skills.
Ability to interpret and implement college and departmental policies pertaining to security matters.
Ability to work irregular hours and be on call 24/7 for unexpected emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred with three (3) years supervisory experience in law enforcement, corrections, or the military.
Possesses a working knowledge of Title IX and Clery Act requirements.
Completed OSHA 10 or 30 Training
