Technical Support Specialist (PSS2), Mechanical Engineering, Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering seeks a qualified, competent, professional, and service-oriented specialist to meet the technical support needs of our growing student and faculty populations, as well as our expanding educational and laboratory research facilities.
The candidate must have experience in working with engineers, creative project development and management skills, and excellent communications skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, must be capable of multi-tasking on many difficult problems in a fast-paced environment, and must be available to work in a flexible schedule that may include some evening hours. A background with academic experience is preferred.
The technical support specialist works closely with students, faculty, and staff. Their duties are to:
Have a working expertise with a wide range of fabrication technologies and maintain currency with state-of-the-art technology and software.
Provide individual and group training to students, staff, and faculty on laboratory safety procedures, and the proper and safe use of instrumentation; maintain safety and regulatory standards, and monitor laboratories to ensure safety.
Use a variety of measurement, calibration, and fabrication equipment with safe practices.
Fabricate experimental systems and devices from working drawings, performing limited design when given conceptual drawings and requirements.
Assist faculty in developing and fabricating of research equipment.
Assist students in design and prototyping for engineering clinic and research projects.
Establish and conduct preventive maintenance of machine tool equipment.
Maintain department lab inventory and classroom materials. Ensure necessary materials and supplies for labs are in stock for the maintenance, fabrication, and teaching schedules.
Manage and train student workers to assist in the shop environment.
Contribute to other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology supplemented by a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. The Master's degree requirement may be fulfilled by one year of professional experience.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in an institution of higher education or another field that is directly related to the functions of the position. Candidates without a Master's degree must have a total of four years of professional experience.
Technical Skills
:
Required
: Experience in the use of CNC programming and setup
Experience in the use of MasterCam (preferred) or CAM within SolidWorks
Preferred
: Working knowledge of Solidworks (CAD)
Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
Ability to operate and service a laser cutter, 3D printer, welders (MIG/TIG) and waterjet
Experience in composites manufacturing
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
