About the Position: The Academic Advising Center is the home for Undergraduate General Education Advising and for undeclared students. Our mission is to work in a collaborative partnership with students, a shared responsibility, where the advisor and student are equally invested in the educational process and holistic development of the student. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Academic Advisor (Student Services Professional I-Range B). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director, the Academic Advisor provides General Education advising to undergraduate students and assists in implementing special events and conferences for campus and community college advisors. In collaboration with university offices, develops and implements programs geared toward assisting students in identifying appropriate academic resources to improve retention of our first semester freshman and undeclared student populations. Assists with presentations at New Student Orientations, General Education Workshops, Fullerton Finish program, and the RESET advising workshops. Works with the Director and Associate Director to coordinate immediate and effective assistance to Undeclared Academic Notice and Disqualified students. Responsible for ensuring that a complete and accurate accounting of Undeclared Academic Notice and Disqualified students are entered and maintained in the Academic Advising database. Coordinates with the on-site Academic Advising advisors in the areas of: on-going, advanced training in techniques to mentor students toward reentering the Campus community and/or improving toward acceptable grade levels for continued enrollment and retention. Serves as the liaison between Academic Advising and the representative from Open University to ensure students are given every opportunity to remediate the courses which contributed to their current academic status. Provides monthly progress reports to the Associate Director which identifies student academic status, uses all relevant tutorials, and college compliance policy. Other duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications: Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field plus one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent amounts of job-related, graduate level education may be substituted for the required experience. Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management. Working knowledge of research techniques, interview techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports. Ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and activities and the overall organization. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Preferred Qualifications: Specialized experience in a higher education academic advising center or department preferred.
