Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in education, communication, business, career development/counselor or related field from a regionally accredited institution and work experience in a high school, community college or educational environment as a career/academic advisor, academic/success coach or counselor.
Demonstrated ability to build meaningful, quality relationships
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with and/or demonstrated knowledge of career services.
Knowledge and practical application of student/career development theory.
Knowledge in all aspects of the student experience to include: coaching, mentoring, academic/career advising, student/career services and progression.
Position Description
The Career Coach will interact with high school students, College faculty and staff, academic and career technical education coordinators, teachers, school counselors, and staff to provide career/college/job information for high school students. The Career Coach will work with students to explore career options, develop career plans, and investigate career pathway options at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (RCC).
Position is responsible for interacting with Student Development personnel at RCC; attending events such as job fairs, college nights, career days; attending faculty and staff meetings as needed. The Career Coach will work with secondary and postsecondary staff to ensure coordination of high school and college schedules that allow student access to required coursework and will serve as the point of contact for high school students, parents and prospective RCC students.
Under the direction and supervision of the Director, Educational Partnerships, this position will educate career development specialists, high school counselors, teachers, students, and parents about CCP enrollment and post-secondary opportunities at RCC.
RCC has two available positions.
A. High School Outreach Responsibilities
1. Career Exploration and Programming
Engage high school students, counselors, career development specialists, RCS College Advisors, teachers, parents, and all stakeholders in information sessions related to college success, CCP advising sessions, and RCC programs.
Develop and coordinate events to promote awareness of career pathways.
Work with partner high school and college personnel to develop educational materials about career pathways for distribution to students and their families/caregivers.
Plan for and implement consistent communication with students, faculty, staff, families/ caregivers, etc.
Organize and lead college campus visits and tours.
Provide college and career advising and registration assistance with enrollment in educational pathways.
Work in collaboration with high school counselors and career development specialists to advise and enroll students in CCP pathways.
2. Advising
Provide academic and career advising for high school learners.
Maintain accurate student records adequate to assist in annual reporting required by the funding agency.
Communicate with College personnel regarding needs of high school students.
To ensure the ability to provide timely, accurate information and guidance to advisees and their families/caregivers, develop and maintain an adequate working knowledge of: policies and procedures related to NC high school, community college, university, and military pathways and community workforce development resources and other appropriate community support organizations and agencies.
Assist with the community college admission and enrollment process.
Facilitate orientation activities for CCP students prior to enrollment.
Support services
Participate as an active member of the Key Leaders team and other program advisory board that guides the partnership is between the college and high school, composed (at minimum) of the high school career development coordinator, counselor(s), and principal as well as community college personnel, using the expertise of the Board members to guide program development.
Provide support, intervention, and instruction to help students succeed in high school and/or college courses and transition successfully into the college environment.
Communicate policy and procedure information to students and parents.
Conduct classroom visits and workshops with enrolled students at the high school to inform and instruct students about pathway requirements.
Recommend and develop procedures for maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulation and guidelines.
B. Workforce Engagement Responsibilities
Business and Industry Engagement
Work closely with the economic development entities to develop professional relationships with business and industry leaders and to remain knowledgeable about the careers available for graduates entering the workforce.
Coordinate with local business leaders to offer high school learners opportunities to learn about career availability in Rockingham County.
Coordinate tours with local industries to expose students to various career pathways.
Collaborate with Director of Corporate Education and Training
C. College Responsibilities
Collaborate with department chairs and program directors to stay abreast of program changes.
Communicate with program leadership opportunities for growth, improvement, and new programs based on secondary school feedback.
Participate in the all aspects of the institutional planning process.
Work with enrollment services, the Director of Educational Partnership, and Rockingham County Schools to outline CCP enrollment goals.
Identify potential services, workshops, and or seminars that would benefit the CCP program and its stakeholders.
Assist with the development and revision of all official policies of RCC
Facilitate procedures for the implementation of RCC and NCCCS per the CCP Operating Procedures.
Assist with the development of admissions and enrollment information for college marketing material specific to CCP.
Maintain compliance with established performance standards with the NCCCS, RCC, and other stakeholders.
Support Enrollment Services policies and procedures for RCC.
Maintain records for enrollment, tracking and grant reporting purposes.
Participate in team meetings and professional development activities.
Maintain the integrity of the College and its related foundations.
Represent the College professionally and handling all student inquiries confidentially.
Maintain effective intra-institution relationships with members of the Board of Trustees, President’s Cabinet Staff, RCS Board of Education, RCS Executive Team, and all administrative staff, faculty, and support personnel of the college at RCC and RCS.
Provide appropriate liaison support with the North Carolina Community College System, RCC and other relational entities.
Collaborate with the NCCCS staff of public relations and marketing opportunities
Promote **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. with local, state, regional, and national citizenry.
Provide appropriate liaison support with Rockingham County Schools.
Participate in activities that promote and enhance the College’s image among its various publics.
Location
The Career Coach will be housed on high school campuses four days and on the campus of RCC one day a week. The supervisor or Vice President for Academic Affairs reserves the right to revise the location and schedule for the college to carry out its mission.
