The Graduate Program Director works collaboratively with Kelly Campus Faculty to ensure the execution of a transformative graduate experience in place-based education. They instruct coursework, oversee assessment, curriculum scope and sequence and teaching practice. The Graduate Program Director mentors faculty and serves as an instructional coach of graduate students. The Graduate Program Director will build on the strong TSS programming history to evolve the TSS Graduate Program.
Qualifications:
• Master's or PhD in Education Preferred
• Experience teaching in both formal (K-12) and informal (outdoor/environmental education) settings
• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external constituents
• Experience building university level curriculum and aligning content/ experience with expected outcomes
• Demonstrated experience evolving program design and department vision aligned with larger organizational goals, feedback, budget, and strategic plan
• Demonstrated budget management success
• Varied experience hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating faculty
• Ability to manage risk and make leadership decisions in front and backcountry settings.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and Google Apps
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
• Primarily Kelly Campus of Teton Science Schools with potential meetings/interactions/work on all campus locations
• Stretches of time outdoors in all weather, including extreme temperatures and arid conditions
• May be expected to work evenings, weekends or overtime to support special programs/events
• Time spent hiking/camping in front- and back-country settings
• Carry a backpack of 20 lbs for 8 hours a day over uneven terrain
• Able to drive 15 passenger vans & minibuses with participants
Responsibilities:
70% Graduate Program
• Oversee Graduate Program curriculum development ensuring regular assessment and evolution of content and systems to
assure quality, efficacy, and market competitiveness
• Provide academic leadership for graduate faculty, including hiring, training, and supervising graduate faculty
• Lead Graduate Program faculty providing high quality graduate student engagement consistent with the TSS Framework for place-based education
• Oversee the advancement, innovation and improvement of Graduate Program and curriculum ensuring program adheres to TSS operating guidelines and outcomes for university partners and coursework
• Lead a strong academic relationship with our higher education partners including University of Wyoming and Antioch University New England.
• Teach, coach, and mentor graduate students in the development of pedagogical, leadership, and instructional skills
• Support the Teaching Practicum focusing on place-based application into schools and classroom instruction
• Manage graduate program administrative responsibilities including scheduling, advising, and assessment
• Provide timely information around teaching teams, grades, schedules and updates
• In cooperation with faculty, develop coaching, training and graduate academic calendar
• Coordinate trainings, academic sessions and faculty responsibilities for training/Rendezvous weeks
• Assure grades and syllabi are submitted in a timely manner
• Oversee the drive for 100% capacity utilization of the Graduate Program and managing a waitlist each year
• Facilitate on boarding incoming graduate students with the Grad Program Administrator
20% Supervisor Responsibilities
• Budget oversight $500k
• Responsible for evaluation and feedback processes of direct reports associated with annual and ongoing review.
• Periodically serve as Director On Call - being available by phone and responding from 5 pm to 7 am and on weekends for up to a week at a time.
• Work in budget creation, oversight and management with finance and central administration.
10% One TSS Responsibilities
• Further development of practice and implementation of place based education pedagogies.
• Engages and collaborates across TSS program areas when possible.
• Contribute to inclusive work and learning environments through continually developing cultural competency. It lies at the intersection of awareness of others, self-awareness, and applying skills & knowledge to promote inclusion and equity
• Attend Kelly Campus faculty meetings and trainings
