Job Summary
Under general supervision, enter customer, case and billing information into the Laboratory Information Management System for the CAHFS Davis Laboratory. Provide general accounts receivable, billing and collections support as directed by the department supervisor. Provide administrative services including, but not limited to, maintaining the mailroom, filing and back-up assistance for Equine Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (EACL) Case Reporting, the Front Desk and Storeroom as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Be able to perform repetitive motions; typing.
Must wear laboratory required/supplied PPE and participate in Health Surveillance Program.
Must tolerate strong odors and the sight of exposed animal tissues and blood products, and handle/dispose of infectious materials.
May, at times, work with or be in areas where biohazardous and chemical materials and infectious diseases are present. Specific hazards of the position are, but are not limited to salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, Campylobacter, hot acids, bases, ethers and other chemicals.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work at computer and use a mouse and keyboard for extended periods of time (6-8 hours per day).
Once fully trained, this position may be eligible to work remotely for one (1) day per week.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm (Work schedule might be slightly different during the training period).
Work flexible schedule/overtime as needed to complete projects and meet deadlines.
Mandatory overtime may be required during emergencies and/or outbreaks.
Restricted/limited vacation during peak workload periods (i.e. Outbreaks, Fiscal Close, Audits Periods, etc.).
Occasional travel to CAHFS branch laboratories, conferences, etc.
THIS IS NOT AN H1B/J1 OPPORTUNITY. Candidate must be legally permitted to work in the United States and not subject to revocation.
This is not a research position. The position is located in a diagnostic laboratory where quality control and assurance as well as meticulous working habits are essential.
This position is subject to UCD's vaccination program (Influenza, SARS-CoV-2, is/might subject to prophylactic vaccination for rabies), and Medical/Health Surveillance Program/Procedures/Review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
Per the terms and agreements of the department's contracts and grants, the position requires signing of a Confidentiality Agreement or Non-Disclosure Agreement regarding testing and client information.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Experience working in a high demand work environment with unpredictable, heavy workloads and skill to move between work areas as needed while utilizing time management skills to prioritize and complete daily work assignments according to established deadlines, departmental standards and sample submission protocols, and skill to receive and comply with directions and accommodate occasional projects or special deadlines both independently and in a team setting.
Experience with medical records, client services, and/or billing in a veterinary medical or human healthcare environment; typing, data entry, and filing; preparing and proofreading correspondence, reports and informational documents; and performing standard mathematical computations to complete tasks and make corrections as needed.
Experience working independently with minimal supervision, exercising good judgment and decision-making, maintaining confidentiality, exercising discretion, and resolving conflicts.
Interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse administration, staff, faculty, and clientele, using diplomacy, and good judgment during all interactions in the performance of a wide variety of programs and support functions.
Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and interpersonal) to effectively interpret instructions and interact with a wide variety of people from multiple departments and government agencies in a helpful, effective, and informative manner using tact and diplomacy.
Computer skills including data entry and use of various software packages such as e-mail, word processing, accounting and spreadsheets.
Proofreading and analytical skills to recognize, spell and use veterinary medical terminology correctly, with proper use of grammar and punctuation.
Preferred:
Experience and knowledge to assist and/or train co-workers, faculty and/or staff in use of CAHFS' Laboratory Information Management System, Quality System and SOPs.
Experience with and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and University accounting policies and procedures.
Proficiency in the use of UC Davis financial programs and tools (Kuali, UCPath, etc.) for the effective performance of accounting job duties.
Knowledge of CAHFS Policies and procedures regarding telephone techniques, laboratory security and personal health and safety. Accounts receivable and invoicing skills including knowledge of payment posting and application fundamentals.
