Description
The Dean of Strategic Initiatives plays an important leadership role on **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Western’s campus. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean of Strategic Initiatives is responsible for the following:
Advance Institutional and Statewide Strategic Priorities
(40%)
Advance UMW’s efforts aligned with NWCCU, BOR, OCHE, and UM Affiliation priorities.
Collaborate with academic departments/divisions to address Montana’s emerging opportunities and challenges through curricular and pedagogical adjustments.
Lead UMW’s 2-Year mission in collaboration with academic departments and divisions.
Provide leadership and strategic guidance for the School of Outreach programs including Dual Enrollment & Pathways, Workforce & Professional Development, and Lifelong Learning & Road Scholar Program.
Foster Research, Sponsored Programs, and Strategic Partnerships
(25%)
Advocate for and foster opportunities to utilize external funding to advance scholarly work (e.g. faculty and student research) and student support programming (e.g. TRIO, etc.) in collaboration with faculty and staff across UMW.
Oversee pre-award grants administration, including IRB and IACUC.
Through consistent collaboration with academic departments/divisions, support the strategic development and maintenance of educational pathways into UMW, such as Dual Enrollment, 2 2 Programs, Prior Learning Assessment opportunities, and course/program sharing initiatives within the UM Affiliation and across the MUS. Some of these efforts will involve applying for and managing grants and other external funding.
Develop and support strategic partnerships with employers and industry partners to expand educational opportunities for community members and ensure UMW meets the workforce needs of our region.
Lead Accreditation and Compliance Efforts

Serve as UMW’s official Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) with NWCCU and coordinate all efforts related to institutional accreditation.
Coordinate with others across campus to ensure institutional compliance with OCHE, NWCCU, and all state and federal laws.
Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Research and coordinate efforts related to institutional effectiveness, including implementing, tracking, and reporting on institutional metrics related to Strategic Plan fulfillment and other annual reporting efforts.

Requirements
The Dean of Strategic Initiatives will possess:
Terminal degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years of related experience in higher education leadership;
Significant experience in institutional effectiveness and strategic planning in higher education;
Experience preparing reports related to institutional and/or programmatic accreditation;
Experience with pre-award and post-award management of sponsored programs, agreements, research grants, and contracts;
Experience working with quantitative and qualitative data;
Outstanding organizational, time management, and analytical skills to work effectively with multiple offices and deadlines while paying careful attention to detail;
Good communication, writing, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to maintain consistent attention to detail;
Strong customer service experience and ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of individuals within and outside of the University;
Discretion, personal integrity and superior ethics.
Preferred
Familiarity with higher education organizational structures and academic policies;
Strong skills in administering complex record systems, policies, and budgets.
