Job Description:
BASIC PURPOSE: Assists the Campus Ministry staff with various aspects of ministry in support of the mission of the University. This is a 20 hour per week, 40 week/year position from August to May. Includes tuition remission (not including fees) in an Assumption University graduate program for 3 courses in the fall, 3 in the spring, and 2 in the summer until graduate degree is complete or employment ends, whichever comes first. Incumbent may not hold additional employment at the University during this time.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Assists the Director of Campus Ministry and Director of Music Ministry in the operation of liturgy and liturgical music. Specific duties include:
a. Prepares weekly Chapel leaflet and/or projection slides.
b. Serves as liturgical coordinator for weekly Sunday 10 AM Mass. When necessary, serves as liturgical coordinator for weekly Sunday 7 PM Mass.
c. Assists with set-up, on-site coordination and clean-up for major campus liturgies (ie, Move-In Day Mass, Student Athlete Prayer Service, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, Ecumenical Prayer, Paschal Triduum, Baccalaureate Mass).
2. Assists the Director of Campus Ministry and other Campus Ministry staff in the operation of domestic/international service/immersion (SEND) opportunities. Specific duties include:
a. Leads a SEND service/immersion trip if the schedule permits and the need arises.
b. Assists with oversight of SEND trip student leaders.
c. Attends meetings with student leaders and student participants regularly.
d. Guides the determination and completion of tasks.
3. Serves as Minister in Residence in one of the campus residential areas. Specific duties include:
a. Develops and maintains a Christian community in the residential area that is welcoming to Catholic students, students from other religious traditions, and students not connected to a faith community.
b. Provides pastoral support and a spiritual presence for students and live-in staff within residential halls through conversation, faith-based activities, educational programming, student consultations, social events, and participation in meetings and other events offered by the Residential Life staff.
c. Collaborates with other Ministers in Residence in co-advising and collaborating with student Peer Ministers.
d. Participates in meetings with other Ministers in Residence, the Director of Campus Ministry, and the Director of Residential Life.
4. Holds regular office hours in the Hagan Campus Ministry office to interact with students, recruit students for Campus Ministry groups and programs, and build relationships with SEND trip leaders and other student leaders.
5. Develops and delivers promotion strategies for student engagement in Campus Ministry groups and programs. Specific duties include:
a. Maintains and regularly posts to the Campus Ministry Instagram and Facebook pages.
b. Posts to University media including the Portal, the AU mobile app, the CDIC Handshake platform, posters, Le Provocateur, ACTV, etc.
c. Distributes weekly calendar of Campus Ministry activities to members of Campus Ministry Student Leader Association.
6. Develops and maintains system for tracking student engagement in Campus Ministry groups and programs.
7. Maintains contact with Office of Communications regarding possible press releases and other coverage of Campus Ministry programs.
8. Serves, as needed, as the Campus Ministry advisor for one or more Campus Ministry groups or programs.
9. Meets with the Director of Campus Ministry on a biweekly basis for supervision and discussion of issues related to work.
Requirements:
* Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University.
* Commitment to Campus Ministry's goal of evangelization (helping students to develop a relation with Jesus Christ) and range of ministerial activities including prayer and worship, service and justice, and spiritual growth and development.
* Bachelor's Degree; must be enrolled in or accepted into a graduate degree program at Assumption University prior to hire. Current or incoming graduate student at Assumption University in good academic standing.
* Previous involvement or strong interest in Campus Ministry, community service, liturgy and liturgical music preferred.
* Experience in leading groups; previous experience in leading faith-based service/immersion trips preferred. Ability to travel and lead a service/immersion trip. Desire to work with and learn from diverse communities.
* Experience in or pastoral skills for, serving as a religious presence in an undergraduate residential hall.
* Must be an active, practicing member of the Catholic Church or another religious denomination.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Word, Access, Publisher, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Canva. Ability to learn to use ProPresenter (Chapel slide projection system) and OneLicense (liturgical music site).
* Ability to work independently and as a team player.
* Task oriented.
* Ability to interact well with students, faculty, staff, SEND trip partner agency representatives, church ministers, and worshipers in the College Chapel from on and off campus.
* Ability to maintain appropriate ministerial boundaries with students.
* Vaccinated and boostered for COVID-19 required.
Additional Information:
SCOPE:
* Interacts on a frequent, daily basis with students, faculty and administrators, as well as worshipers in the College Chapel from on and off campus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
* Most work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment, in the College Chapel, or in a campus residential hall.
* Limited physical effort required. May occasionally have to lift up to 25 lbs.
* Very limited exposure to physical risk.
