Job Summary
The Office of Financial Aid is part of the Enrollment Management unit, where we support recruitment and student success efforts of the campus through the administration of financial aid programs. This full-time position reports to the Assistant Director of Scholarship Services (Customer Services) and is part of a team that provides excellent customer service to students and their families as they navigate the financial aid and scholarship processes. General duties include financial aid and scholarship counseling, management of specific scholarship programs, various processing tasks related to student aid eligibility, conducting outreach presentations, and supporting the office as needed. This position maintains a thorough and current understanding of all Title IV federal, State of Colorado, and institutional rules, regulations and procedures to ensure accurate release of information and program compliance.

We coordinate over $425M in grants, scholarships, work-study and loans for over 20,000 students each year. Our staff consists of 38 full-time professional employees and 50-60 student employees.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Scholarship Program Management & Customer Service:
Develop and maintain liaison relationships with a variety of university and private scholarship programs as well as colleges, departments and other campus programs to provide counseling for student recipients, donor relations, financial reconciliation, and reporting.
Develop and implement new programs and processes to improve and enhance scholarship opportunities for students and to enhance the customer experience.
Provide individualized counseling and services to specific populations of prospective and current scholarship programs.
Manage fund reconciliation of assigned scholarship programs throughout the year.
Write, review, and keep up-to-date the position's policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned to support Scholarship Services and the Office of Financial Aid. These can include but are not limited to reviewing and rating scholarship applications, coordinating scholarship interviews, developing and updating modules for the student employee training manual and accessing federal financial aid systems to research and resolve problems with students' financial aid applications.
Advising:
Assist with scholarship specific customer service duties, such as phones, front counter, email, etc. as needed.
Advise students and families on application processes, important timelines, types of aid, eligibility requirements, financing options and other resources available.
Exercise professional judgment when students or their families have unusual financial circumstances to determine additional eligibility.
Adjust awards as needed to reflect student's enrollment and eligibility.
Student Employee Supervision:
Supervise, mentor, train, empower, evaluate, and provide leadership to the Office of Financial Aid Scholarships student employees.
Interview, hire, and onboard new student employees.
Student employee scheduling management.
Participate in student employee supervisor management meetings.
Serve as resource to student employees.
Ensure that the work assigned to the team is completed accurately and on schedule.
Ensure direct reports maintain compliance with state and federal regulations and University guidelines and that students are trained to complete processing tasks in accordance with these rules, regulations and guidelines in a timely manner.
Processing:
Process scholarship appeals.
Review overawards and make appropriate adjustments.
Process verification of cost of attendance and verification of financial aid offers for external organizations.
Cross-train with other scholarship team members and assist with processing needs as necessary.
Outreach:
Participate in scholarship program specific, and financial aid campus and community outreach events, including those held in the evenings and on weekends.
Develop and present outreach presentations on financial aid and scholarships for prospective and current students.
Assist Admissions with recruitment events that could include presenting, hosting workshops, or managing a resource table.
Professional Development:
Collaborate with immediate supervisor to determine areas for professional growth. Identify and request appropriate training opportunities offered by the office, the University, and through various professional associations or organizations.
Participate in external and internal trainings, conferences, webinars etc. related to administering all types of financial aid.
Attend staff meetings, retreats and other meetings as assigned. May include representing the Office of Financial Aid in enrollment management and campus-level initiatives.

This position offers the opportunity for hybrid work (both in person and remote work hours).
Final candidate must successfully pass a criminal and financial background check and cannot be in default on a student loan either upon hire or while employed in this position.

The salary range for this position is $47,000-$52,000.

What We Require
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
At least one year of professional experience working in a financial aid office or other student services office in a higher education setting.
What You Will Need
Strong digital literacy including software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other presentation software), email communication tools, and web-based applications.
Experience providing customer service including a strong commitment to delivering an extraordinary student experience.
Ability to understand and apply federal, state, institutional rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to communicate key and critical information in a timely fashion.
Adept in gaining the confidence and trust of others through honesty, authenticity, and acceptance of responsibility.

What We Would Like You To Have
Previous professional experience in fundraising, scholarship administration, donor relations and/or gift and grant administration.
Knowledge of Federal Title IV financial aid.
NASFAA credentials.
Knowledge of State of Colorado financial aid regulations.
Experience with federal financial aid data systems including NSLDS, FAA Access, and COD.
Experience using PeopleSoft or other student information systems.
Bilingual.
