Job Description:
The Department of Education at Assumption University seeks to hire several adjunct instructors to supervise teacher candidates (student teachers) during the spring 2022 semester. The University is committed to in-person instruction, and the Assumption teacher candidates will be in-person at local area schools (K-12). Adjunct instructors (known as program supervisors) will be supervising students in public schools and will be facilitating weekly seminars on Assumption's campus.
The department needs to staff multiple sections of the elementary and middle/secondary practicum and seminar (EDU 420 and 420S: Practicum and Seminar at the Elementary Level; EDU 440 and 440S: Practicum and Seminar at the Middle/Secondary Level). The student teaching practicum involves a partnership among the teacher candidate, the supervising practitioner (classroom teacher), the Assumption program supervisor, and the Education department at Assumption University. It is a
two-course position
The program supervisor's primary responsibilities are to: attend all program supervisor trainings; communicate with the triad of teacher candidate, supervising practitioner, and Education department chair; coordinate the Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP) process; conduct at least four formal observations of each candidate in the field, including post-observation debriefing meetings and calibration with the supervising practitioner; maintain and submit data on each candidate's performance on CAP through the online CAP platform; and lead a weekly 2.5-hour seminar for their teacher candidate cohort. Cohorts are composed of five to six either elementary or middle/secondary teacher candidates. EDU 420/420S and 440/440S run from Jan. 10 to May 2022.
Adjuncts are welcomed as important contributors to the department and to our teacher candidates. They are provided with office space, email, voicemail, support for using our learning management system (Brightspace), and other resources needed for quality teaching. Successful candidates may have the possibility of teaching additional courses in subsequent semesters.
Requirements:
Applicants must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
A Master's degree is required. Current or recent teaching or administrator license at the professional level. Knowledge of and experience in a 1-12 classroom setting, including at least four years teaching experience. Experience mentoring novice teachers. Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment. Strong communication, record keeping, and organizational skills including use of an on-line platform for data collection. Availability during the K-12 school day and on Wednesday afternoons is a must.
