Job Summary
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides clerical support for assigned nursing unit. In doing so, transcribes physicians' orders, schedules diagnostic tests and therapies for patients, assembles and maintains patient charts, answers telephone and intercom calls and provides routine, approved information, and relays other calls and messages.
 
Involved in care provided for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of medical/surgical problems at various developmental levels. Patients are from both traditional and nontraditional family structures with a variety of socio-cultural and educational backgrounds.
 
 
Essential Duties

Enters physicians' orders on computer with close review by professional nurses and notifies nursing personnel of orders requiring immediate attention. Assures that orders have been signed by the registered nurse.
Enters appropriate information in computer for diagnostic tests, meals, therapies, and so forth, consistent with physicians' orders.
Assembles medical charts for newly-admitted patients and maintains current charts. Adds appropriate pages to the charts as necessary. Disassembles and sends patient charts to Main ACC upon patient discharge, transfer, expiration, or as requested. Thins open charts as needed to keep charts manageable in size.
Greets and directs patients and unit visitors, and may help with orienting patients to assigned rooms (e.g., shows where call light is). Answers telephone calls, responds to routine inquiries, and relays other calls and messages. Responds to patients' call lights and notifies appropriate personnel of patients' requests. Utilizes pocket paging and wireless phone system effectively.
Contacts physicians directly or through hospital paging system, as requested by authorized personnel. Notifies physicians of patient room numbers, new consults, and so forth.

Hours: Full-time days, 36 hours per week','!*!QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education
Ability to read and write in order to complete requisition forms, comprehend and communicate complicated verbal and written instructions when scheduling patients for diagnostic tests and ordering prescribed meals, transcribe physicians' orders accurately and legibly, and to perform basic arithmetic calculations, order supplies, assemble charts, and so forth at a level normally acquired through completion of high school. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
 
Experience
Approximately one to three months on-the-job experience necessary in order to acquire and effectively use knowledge of procedures and schedules, and to gain familiarity with basic medical terminology.','We’re an equal opportunity employer.
