Department Purpose
Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owner/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. SHDS also provides student support and conference housing services to the campus and general community. For more information about SHDS visit our website at ****The Facilities Services unit is one of six major units within the SHDS Department. Facilities Services oversees all the daily maintenance, major maintenance, preventive maintenance, custodial services, capital projects and painting for SHDS. Facilities Services encompass approximately 2.0 million square feet and over 100 residential, dining, and administrative buildings.

Job Summary
Under supervision of the Asset and Inventory (A&I) Manager, work as a member of the Logistics Support Team. This position is responsible for the receipt, issuing, delivery, warehousing, handling, transportation, installation, assembly, event set-up and proper disposal of Student Housing & Dining Services' (SHDS) furnishings, equipment, hazardous waste and supplies to support the work of the department following UC Davis processes. The A&I Assistant receives work instruction from the Asset & Inventory Manager or A&I Team Leader to assist the daily work of student staff assistants during the summer and academic months to accomplish these functions and other minor facility-related projects as needed. The incumbent is expected to understand and enforce University policies and procedures, will be held accountable for meeting established expectations, and will be responsible for the physical integrity and accountability for all assigned material, equipment, and assets.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work in restricted areas around large noisy equipment; climb ladders or stairs to top of machinery, crawl, stoop, bend, and work in close quarters or cramped conditions.
Wear and maintain standard approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, hearing, and eye protection.
Walk up and down stairs and in and around construction sites and buildings under construction.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

****Work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present; specific hazards of the position include, but are not limited to, asbestos-containing insulation, gypsum-based materials and finishes, and adhesives; lead-containing paint and other surface treatments; paint solvents and petroleum distillates; mercury-containing fluorescent light tubes, PCB-containing ballasts, etc.
Work alone or in a team environment and within heavily populated spaces.
Valid CA driver's license required. Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. A copy of DMV record will be required as a final condition of employment.
Required to obtain forklift certification within 45-days of employment.
May be required to work a non-standard workweek including one or both days of the weekend. Occasional overtime will be required. Will occasionally be asked to work during UC or national holidays. Vacation usage may be limited during peak workload periods. Will be required to work on-call as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
Experience with planning and assessing workload and priorities. Demonstrated storage and organization skills.
Experience with working on complex projects and work schedules in coordination with others and ensuring timely completion of multiple simultaneous projects.
Receiving experience to include - reading detailed information on packing slips, shipping vouchers, purchase orders and inventory lists to verify accuracy and correlate with actual items received or on hand.
Experience with Customer Service to include strong verbal and interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively with student staff, colleagues, clients, contractors and vendors, in person, in writing and by phone.
Experience handling and operating powered and non-powered material handling equipment (e. g., climbers, gas and electric forklifts, electric stock pickers, electric pallet jacks, hand trucks, flat carts, mail tubs and cages etc.). Understanding of safety regulations, safe working practices, body mechanics, lifting techniques, and equipment (hand trucks, dollies, pallet jacks, etc.) typically used in moving large furniture and equipment items.
Experience driving delivery vehicles (vans and/or up to 3-ton capacity delivery truck) and using a hydraulic lift gate to deliver merchandise in busy pedestrian/bicycle traffic areas. Understanding of state driving codes and regulations (exhibit safe driving practices, observing all campus and state driving codes/regulations).
Experience working with computers and working in a Windows environment to include e-mail, Word, Excel, and other computer programs as necessary to maintain recordkeeping systems, reporting and access Internet resources.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
Knowledge and experience assembling, reconfiguring, and moving office furniture, to include use of powered and non-powered tools (hand tools, circular saws, drills, etc).
Knowledge and experience with Asset Management Systems - to include Inventory Controls, Inventory Systems and Parts Management.
Knowledge of campus inventory procedures and software specific to the university. Initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
