Applications are invited for the role of Research Assistant/Research Associate/Research Fellow to lead research project developing a minimum dataset for UK care homes as part of the NIHR Developing Resources and Minimum Dataset for Care Homes Adoption (DACHA) study.
The successful applicant will, along with colleagues at the University of Kent, work to pilot and evaluate a prototype dataset using an electronic interface in a network of care homes across the East Midlands. A second tranche of care homes will be recruited in the Southeast of England and second researcher, based in Kent, will co-ordinate research there.
The successful applicant will work
To cultivate relationships with existing research enabled care homes across the East Midlands in order to deliver the project.
Support the implementation of the minimum dataset in the care home.
Retrieve, work with and interpret quantitative data emerging from the dataset, with support from statisticians and data scientists.
Conduct and analyse interviews conducted in participating care homes and with other stakeholders across the East Midlands.
This work addresses important shortcomings about how data is collated and used from long-term care homes in the UK. The recommendations coming from this work could both transform day-to-day care in care homes and help make the sector more resilient against future pandemics.
More details on the DACHA study can be found at: ****You will join a team, led by Prof Adam Gordon, whose main areas of research revolve around healthcare delivery in care homes. Prof Gordon’s group holds major research grants and plays leading roles in delivering research in the sector. This includes randomized controlled trials of novel interventions in care homes, evaluations of in vitro diagnostics in care homes, developing a minimum dataset to describe care delivery, research to outline optimal models of healthcare delivery, and qualitative research describing many aspects of care delivery in care homes. Prof Gordon leads the Building Community Resilience and Enabling Independence (BCREI) theme of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration-East Midlands (ARC-EM) and we would expect the applicant to be able to access the full range of support and networking opportunities available through the ARC. The wider DACHA team includes leading researchers in the field at other Universities across the UK.
The successful applicant must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they commence their new post. The role is available on a fixed term contract until 31/10/2023. Hours of work are full-time ( 36.25
hours). However, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
