Howard Community College is seeking an Instructor for our Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program. The Instructor is responsible for implementing aspects of didactic courses using in-person as well as on-line methods, laboratory, and clinical teaching in DMS related courses as needed, maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment, curriculum development, student advising and orientation, and supporting the Howard Community College and DMS mission and initiatives. Duties may include any combination of developing and implementing didactic and laboratory instruction in the following areas: Acoustical Physics and Instrumentation, Abdominal Sonography, Obstetric and Gynecologic Sonography, Vascular Sonography, Cardiac Sonography, and/or other ultrasound related topics. The Instructor must be knowledgeable in the current use of technologies in clinical practice and as appropriate to the area of instruction.
Other Duties May Include:
Evaluation and feedback to students
Keeping record of equipment repairs, monitoring systems, and lab supplies
Curriculum development
Developing interdisciplinary simulation experiences
Advisory Board meetings
Curriculum management plan, assisting with on-going review
Taking part in DMS program accreditation process
Attend faculty & Division meetings, student orientations
Student advising
General and administrative duties as determined by Health Sciences Division Chair & DMS Program Director
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with a combination of at least two of the following credentials: RDMS (Abdomen and Ob/Gyn), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
An AAS Degree or higher in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from an accredited institution and a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a field related to education is preferred.
Three years of clinical experience and five years of experience in sonography education are preferred.
One year of experience teaching ultrasound using on-line or hybrid methodology.
Candidate must be familiar with Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) standards/guidelines.
Working knowledge of current clinical ultrasound practice.
Current CPR/BSL certification.
Education & Experience:
Experience and knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation procedures for DMS education programs
Extensive teaching experience with a background in education theory and practice
Current knowledge relative to ultrasound subject matter
Knowledge of current trends affecting the ultrasound profession
Experience with a variety of ultrasound clinical practice sites
Experience in clinical tracking and image management software systems
Experience working with a variety of ultrasound imaging equipment
Experience working with learning management systems and developing on-line course components
Skills & Abilities:
Strong organizational and writing abilities.
Attention to detail.
Excellent advising/counseling skills.
Preferred knowledge of patient care, infection control, cross-sectional anatomy, ultrasound special procedures, laboratory skills, and teaching.
Experience in developing curriculum and curriculum management plans
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other DMS program and Health Sciences Division faculty, staff and administrators.
Able to meet deadlines.
