Profile
Description:
Based in the Faculty of Health, the Peninsula Medical School is committed to three core aims: outstanding clinical education; strong social engagement; and world-class research which all feature strongly in the student learning experience. A key strength is a close relationship with NHS partners, with early clinical contact for all students. The South West offers healthcare and learning opportunities of exceptional quality; Derriford is one of Europe’s largest hospitals and the only trauma centre in Devon and Cornwall. A further strength is our scholarly approach to education, supported by the Division of Education Scholarship. The Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research is the core of research activity, providing a thriving community that conducts adventurous world-leading research with the explicit purpose of improving the health and care of the populations we serve. The Fair Shares Research Assistant will be assigned to Working on the Evaluation Framework for Fair Shares Investments in Reducing Health Inequalities project. It is well-established, both locally and more broadly, that more attention must be paid to addressing the persistent inequalities in health outcomes, healthcare access, and the social determinants of health. The Fair Shares Fund aims to target additional funding to populations (defined by demographic or geographic characteristics) in which have historically been under-invested. The Fair Shares Fund originated in response to a recognition of historic underinvestment in the Western Locality as compared to the rest of Devon, together with significant deprivation and social challenges in the locality. You will contribute to the planning of the research project by undertaking data collection, fieldwork, modelling and other activities to achieve the stated projects objectives. A key component of this role is working closely with LCP, Local Authority, and health practitioner colleagues to secure access to appropriate data sources. You will have capacity-build for continued evaluation and monitoring efforts in partner organisations. You must hold a first degree or equivalent in public health services or related subject and ideally hold knowledge of realist research and application of a realist approach. You should have experience of research in a related field and the ability to design logic models to identify data collection points. You will have the ability to write up own research work, along with holding strong organisational and planning skills. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Richard Byng by email **** This post can be applied for on a part-time or full-time basis, working up to 37 hours per week, on a fixed-term contract for 6 months due to funding. The Faculty of Health holds a Silver Athena Swan Award and the University holds a Bronze Athena SWAN Award which recognises commitment to advancing women’s careers in STEMM academia.
