Duties and Responsibilities
New Student Programs (
NSP
) provides new students and their families information, resources, and support that they need to make a successful transition to academic and student life at Loyola.
NSP
aims to create a seamless and integrated first-year experience. Reporting to the Associate Director for the First-Year Experience, the Assistant Director for First-Year Initiatives provides institutional leadership and support for
UNIV
courses, first-year student and family communications, and other initiatives that support new first-year and transfer students and their families, foster a sense of belonging, and impact student success and retention. The Assistant Director will:
Lead the Peer Advisor program for
UNIV
101 (First-Year Seminar) and
UNIV
201 (Transfer Seminar) courses, which includes the recruitment, selection, training, support, supervision, and evaluation of approximately 70 undergraduate student leaders who support new students in their first semester at Loyola, and 3 Lead Peer Advisors who assist in the coordination and day-to-day operations of the Peer Advisor program
Facilitate
UNIV
instructor recruitment, training, and development; support course curriculum development; and facilitate course evaluation and assessment
Recruit, select, train, support, supervise, and evaluate graduate student workers to support first-year programming
Coordinate with University partners (e.g., Undergraduate Admission, University Marketing and Communications) to manage marketing to and communications with first-year students and their families; including print materials, websites, Loyola apps, emails, texts, and social media
Contribute to a positive team dynamic among staff and student leaders; contribute to collaboration across departments, including First and Second Year Advising, Learning & Student Success, and Special Populations Programs
In collaboration with the Associate Director for the First-Year Experience, coordinate the logistics of New Student Convocation and the Rambler Read common reading program
Work with the Associate Director to support the administration, curriculum development, and assessment of
UNIV
101, 102, and 201
Support orientation programming as needed
Serve as the liaison to First and Second Year Advising to coordinate messaging, student support, and orientation advising
Teach multiple sections of
UNIV
101, 102, 112, and 201 each semester
Coordinate evaluation and assessment efforts related to the Peer Advisor program and first-year and family communications; utilize results for ongoing improvement
Represent New Student Programs on University committees as assigned; participate on internal and University-wide working groups and committees, as needed
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Master's Degree in higher education or related field and knowledge of learning and tutoring theory. Three years' experience.
Qualifications
Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, college student development, or related field and two or more years of professional experience working with first-year experience programs required.

* Experience with first-year experience programming
* Experience supervising undergraduate student staff
* Experience with communications campaigns preferred
* Experience academically advising students preferred
* Experience teaching a first-year seminar preferred
* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and problem-solving skills
* Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with University partners
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with faculty, staff, students, and parents/families
* Ability to embrace, promote, and articulate the University's Jesuit Catholic identity

Computer Skills
Proficient computer skills
: including experience using student information systems, database management, and Microsoft Office suite. Experience with university admission
CRM
software (e.g., Slate) and assessment/evaluation platforms (e.g., Qualtrics, Campus Labs), and communications software, preferred.
