invites applications for a
Postdoctoral Research Associate
. The postdoc will analyze population genomic data from invasive and native trout using multiple novel computational approaches. They will conduct parentage analysis to quantify effects of admixture on individual fitness and dispersal in rainbow trout x cutthroat trout hybrids and lead on the publication of the results in a quality journal. For publication, they will also develop and apply predictive models (e.g. occupancy models or Bayesian models) that combine genetic and environmental data on invasive trout fitness and spread to help forecast future stream-hotspots of likely invasion and hybridization. The person assigned to this position will lead on 2-3 publications per year with help from multiple co-authors. The postdoc will help submit grants for funding related to trout population genomics. They will also help publish related papers lead by FLBS collaborators. They will help teach students pop gen statistical analyses (e.g. at an annual ConGen course). The postdoc will help draft and revise quarterly progress reports for the NASA grant. The postdoc will also interact closely with other employees and collaborators at USGS, FWP, and NASA.
Located on the eastern shore of one of North America's largest lakes, FLBS is a modern ecological research and education facility adjacent to Glacier National Park in the heart of the Crown of Continent ecoregion. Established in 1899, the mission of the station is to conduct basic and applied ecological research with emphasis on fresh water; provide field ecology courses for advanced undergraduate and graduate students; and provide scientific data, interpretation, and outreach to help resolve environmental problems and inform public policy locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The FLBS strives especially to advance understanding of complex linkages among atmospheric, terrestrial, aquatic, and human components of watershed ecosystems. This requires a “genes to ecosystems” approach and, therefore, the faculty at FLBS is strongly interdisciplinary. Research foci at FLBS include limnology of Flathead and other large river-lake systems; water quality and supply in changing landscapes; ecological stoichiometry; systems ecology and modeling of large river ecosystems; microbial ecology; nutrient limitation and biogeochemistry; biodiversity conservation; evolutionary biology of animal, plant, and microbial taxa; ecology of invasive species; remote sensing of climate-mediated landscape change; and integration of social and ecological processes in a systems framework.

Position Details
This position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package (MUS health insurance benefits, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program).
Salary for this position is $45,000 to $49,000 commensurate with experience.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Ecology, biodiversity, or ideally in population genetics and with experience modeling
Ability to conduct parentage analysis (exclusion) using haplotypes from RAD-capture data
Ability to model the presence (occurrence) or movement of individuals or genes (gene flow) using occupancy or individual-based simulation models, or hierarchical Bayesian models
Programming ability in Python, R, or similar language
Documented ability to write and publish papers, use and manage large databases, and communicate with others from diverse groups (e.g. agencies, managers, researchers)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting statistical (GLM or Bayesian) modeling to predict environmental drivers (correlates) of movement or connectivity
Experience applying satellite remote sensing and other geospatial data for landscape habitat analysis & modeling directed toward aquatic ecosystems
Understanding eDNA qPCR
or metagenomics analyses
Many publications, and experience conducting Climate Change Vulnerability Assessments
Experience in fisheries biology and management
Experience working in spatial analysis including spatial statistics and a GIS environment (ArcGIS)
