Job Description:
BASIC PURPOSE: In support of the mission of the University.This position develops and oversees the internship site placement for undergraduate Health Sciences majors. The internship (200 hours) is a required course (6 credits) for Health Sciences majors, who complete their internship in the fall or spring semester of their senior year. The clinical coordinator will also teach one section of HSC 450 Internship in Health Sciences each Fall and Spring semester. This seminar typically meets for one 2.5-hour session each week.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Works directly with Health Sciences faculty, the Department Chair, and the Human Services Clinical Coordinator on internship placements for undergraduate Health Sciences majors.
2. Independently develops internship placement sites in the greater Worcester, Massachusetts, area in the fields of health care delivery, health administration and management, the health insurance industry, public health, and human services.
3. Works in the fall and spring semesters with junior and senior undergraduates to place students in internships that align with their intended career choice. Oversees the internship placement for each student based on established guidelines and communicates regularly with each student and their internship site supervisor.
4. Oversees mid-semester evaluation and end-of-semester final evaluation of student interns.
5. Develops the syllabus, identifies relevant resources, and facilitates the HSC450 Internship in Health Sciences seminar each semester with the goal of preparing interns for full time employment or graduate studies upon graduation. The seminar is usually conducted in one 2.5-hour class meeting each week.
6. Provides representation at recruitment events and career development events, and acts as a steward of the HSRS department at the local, state, and national level.
Requirements:
* Master's degree in a related area (health sciences, health care, public health) required, doctorate degree in related field preferred.
* Must be able to facilitate classroom-based seminars; provide effective instruction; meet university-assigned deadlines.
* Strong written & verbal communication skills.
* Must poses interpersonal skills to network, foster, and maintain relationships with community stakeholders.
* Ability to develop community-wide partnerships; establish internship placement sites in the greater-Worcester area.
* Proficiency in the use of technology, including computers; use of software is required, such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Zoom.
* Must have excellent organizational & time management skills to independently establish a work schedule, manage student interns and their placement locations, and manage conflict when necessary.
* Must have a valid driver's license & ability to conduct off-campus site visits.
* Must be willing to contribute actively to the university mission as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
* Vaccinated and boostered for COVID-19, required.
