Are you interested in helping Sheffield return to normal whilst reducing Covid-19 transmission?
We have an exciting opportunity to work at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. alongside Sheffield City Council to investigate the challenges of providing good ventilation in a range of venues including small and medium sized cafes, restaurants, bars and live music venues. Such venues are essential for a vibrant city, but often have little purpose provided ventilation and we currently know very little about their indoor air quality. Working on this study you will provide essential information on the air quality in such space, the challenges to achieving good ventilation and possible solutions.
You will join the vibrant community of academic staff, postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers that make up the Resource, Infrastructure Systems and Built Environment research group in the Department of Civil Engineering and also be an active member of Sheffield:Air (@SheffieldAir), an interdisciplinary group of researchers with expertise in air quality and pollution.
This interdisciplinary research project will explore current ventilation strategies and behaviours in the hospitality sector, and the technical and behavioural challenges to improving ventilation in order to reduce transmission of COVID-19. Working in a team of academic staff and researchers from both Psychology and Engineering, along with Sheffield City Council, the role will offer you an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange.
You will have, or be close to completion of a PhD in Engineering with a focus on a relevant subject such as ventilation, or indoor air quality. You will have experience of working in the assessment of ventilation performance and an understanding of ventilation design. Applicants who understand fluid flow, mixing and dilution are also welcomed where they can demonstrate adaptability to new contexts.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
