Position Information
This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Major Duties
Under the direction of the Director, the Disability Management Advisor, supports the Student disAbility Resource Center in providing person-to-person interaction for student with disabilities in the provision of reasonable accommodations.
Qualifications
Required Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
Required Experience: Equivalent of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to Counsel students and analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
Preferred Experience: Three (3) years working with students with disabilities is preferred.
Certification: Valid Driver's License
Responsibilities
30% Conducts intake and detailed, interactive process with students. Interprets complex diagnostic assessment results, neurological reports and CSU policy to determine eligibility for services and verification of specific disabilities based on functional limitations. Provides in-depth advising about eligibility and disability management. Refers off campus disability accommodations; develops, implements, monitors, intervenes and modifies individualized student action plans. Serves as SdRC liaison and advocate for students regarding academic affairs, financial aid, housing, etc. Addresses complaints and facilitates solutions. Evaluates progress of each student through various methods. Assists department in the development of testing accommodations such as scheduling, room procedures, proctor training guidelines, staffing recommendations, etc. Make oral presentations either one-on-one or in a group setting concerning disabled issues/laws at conferences either on or off campus.
25% - Review diagnostic assessment protocols for students with learning disabilities and prescribe reasonable accommodations in accordance with the guidelines for Services to Student with Disabilities as mandated by the CSU Chancellor's Office, Section 504 of the Rehabilitations Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. This requires counseling students regarding their specific learning disability; interpretation of testing data; and the completion of written reports on each student who receives psychoeducational assessments and resonable accommodations through the SdRC office; and serves as a liaison for faculty and determines appropriate and reasonable course accommodations and modifications to facilitate communication between student with learning disabilities and their course instructors.
25% - Provides retention strategies for student with disabilities through liaison on and off campus in areas such as academic advising, tutors, mentors, test or course accommodations and substitutions, instruction in learning strategies, etc. Refers student for Alternate Media and Assistive Technology training, and off campus resources. In conjunction with other departments: develops and provides retention services for students, including online learners and Veterans; resolves conflicts regarding equal access to the educational process; recommends solutions to problems for which campus precedents may not exist. Develops policies and procedures related to issues not covered by existing policies and procedures. Upholds professional standards, policies, system-wide mandates, executive orders, and procedures to serve all CSUDH students. Researching the changing laws that govern the disabled, and coordinating the development and achievement of program policies and procedures. Provide reasonable professional opinions to other employees or faculty members about a variety of specific moderately complex cases/issues concerning the legalities of disabled issues. Serves as a spokesperson for the department for faculty, staff, and outside entities and agencies.
10% - Utilize SdRC database known as Accessible Information Management (AIM) and the electronic files on each student in a highly confidential manner; frequently uses AIM database and web-based information. Provide supplemental AIM user support for students, faculty, and staff to complement existing staffing availability.
5% - Assist department head with interviewing, selecting hourly intermittent, student assistant, work study, and special consultant employees.
5% - Other duties as assigned.
