Join Grizzly Athletics as the Assistant Director of Communications. As the Assistant Director of Communications, you will promote the Griz Athletics brand, both internally and externally, through written and digital content, as well as through traditional news media outlets.
You will interacts with the department’s External Operations team, which includes Communications, Marketing, Creative Services and Development. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with local, regional and national media outlets to maximize coverage and exposure for Athletics through both traditional and new media sources. Additionally, Assistant Director of Communications will help maximize the efforts of Grizzly Athletics through its own channels, including ****and various social media platforms. The Assistant Director of Communications is responsible for the compilation, organization and dissemination of all information and records pertinent to **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and its athletics programs.
Athletic Department employees and those University employees outside the Athletic Department with NCAA rules compliance responsibilities are subject at all times to NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance. Failure to conduct oneself as such will result in disciplinary or corrective action up to and including immediate discharge.
Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Directly oversee multiple sports from a media/communications standpoint. At this time, those sports are men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, men’s/women’s track & field and men’s/women’s cross country
The sport assignments are subject to change
This person will also help assist on home football game days
Work with Communications/Marketing/Creative Services colleagues, as well as coaching staffs, to help build a strategic and long-term plan pertaining to Griz Athletics
Assist in the effort in managing, maintaining and growing ****the official website of Grizzly Athletics
Plan and distribute materials for ****ensuring timely and accurate distribution of media guides, press releases, game notes/previews, game recaps, feature articles and team statistics
Thorough knowledge of multiple social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) to regularly produce informative and creative content on team accounts
Use Adobe Premiere Pro or a similar program, work with Montana’s Director of New Media to help create video content (game highlights, hype videos, behind-the scenes content) to enhance programs’ exposure from a video and photography medium
Develop proficient knowledge of NCAA Live Stats software, knowing how to accurately code games in a fast-paced environment
Using Adobe Photoshop, work with Montana’s Marketing and Creative Services departments to help create and produce graphics that fit Griz Athletics’ brand
Responsible for press row game management for all men’s basketball home games
Design and provide editorial content for men’s basketball game programs, also helping proof all materials
Keep national media organizations informed of viable UM coaches, athletes, administrators or former athletes worthy of national honors (athletically and academically)
Provide content to state and national publications to enhance their coverage of UM
Build strong relationships across campus, through the media and in the Missoula community
Arrange coach and athlete(s) interviews for local, state, national print and electronic media, serving as their (and UM’s) liaison
Serve as the point person for television broadcast information. Supply advance information to broadcasters, visiting teams and their media to assist them with their stay in Missoula
Compile, update and enhance Athletic Department records and history
Regular evening and weekend work, as well as team travel
Be an active member of the greater campus communications team

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field and three (3) years of applicable employment experience in a sports setting or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience using Adobe products, including proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro
Experience with media software, social media, statistical software, and related technologies
Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to work with a wide variety of individuals
High level of attention to detail
Strong organizational skills
Experience effectively managing others
Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours
Position includes some travel
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in collegiate sports information
Experience working with Adobe Photoshop and In-Design
