This position is for the fall and spring academic terms only when the library is open, and excludes all breaks and winter/summer terms. Provides infrequently needed back-up coverage for the other evening library clerk (hours Wednesday through Friday), or the weekend library clerk (hours Saturday and Sunday) when possible, and mandatory additional coverage (evening/night hours) for
Finals Week
for the fall and spring semesters is required, typically falling within the first weeks of December and May).

Position Summary

During the evenings, assists in overseeing the library building by: making hourly rounds of the entire building to routinely canvas the library and monitor students, computers, printers, noticing security or facility problems and communicating any issues to appropriate personnel; overseeing and monitoring the student workers at the library's service points; assisting to close up the building, and reporting any issues to campus police and Manager of Library Operations; enforcing library rules and policies; using basic computer skills to utilize Circulation module of the library's management system and assist with circulation services; performing stack maintenance which includes LC and Dewey classifications, shelving, shelf-reading and shifting library materials, and other basic information services to library users.

Minimum Qualifications

A successful interview and passing a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous work experience in a library setting; supervisory experience; opening or closing retail or similar buildings; demonstrated solid computer literacy and previous experience using MS Office Suite and internet web browsers; prior customer service experience; and experience working with diverse populations.
Excellent verbal/written communication skills desirable.
