Systems and Integration Team
The Systems and Integration team focus on providing systems simplification and more resilient model for supporting all University systems. This unit will also drive the development of systems and data integration supporting business intelligence reporting. The team support corporate information services, including 3rd party products and in-house developed systems, providing system management and integration services as required. A major component of the team’s work relates to data management, including database management, data transformations (between systems), data warehousing and the development of Business Intelligence tools.
The Information Systems Team directly supports the higher strategic outputs of the University’s Digital and Transformation and Change agenda and are focused at the software application level. The team provides support for third party corporate information systems, orchestrating underlying data transfers between them, and ensuring all applications are appropriately secure and updated. It also supports and develops in-house applications and developments within systems such as Microsoft Dynamics and SharePoint.
As a Graduate Technician (Developer), you will:
Hold a degree level qualification in an IT related field of study
Have experience in an IT related field commensurate with the requirements of the role
Knowledge of a recognised server-side programming framework development, preferably .net.
Some knowledge and experience of client-side programming languages, including JavaScript or jQuery.
Experience of a relational databases, preferably MS SQL Server.
An understanding of security considerations for developing secure web applications.
Develop and promote positive, innovative and highly collaborative approaches to delivery of business objectives across the Organisation.
Lead in the development and promotion of standards and best practice approaches in areas of specialism and collaborate with other specialists within own Service area and across the University, setting direction regarding the use of appropriate frameworks, methods and standards in support of the IT Target Operating Model.
You may also have:
Formal recognised Project Management qualification, e.g., PRINCE2 or equivalent
ITIL certification
Experience of ISO 20000 implementation
Duties specific to a graduate Technician (Developer) in the Systems and Integration team:
Programming/Software Development
- Systems design - designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors moderately complex programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result. Collaborates in reviews of work with others as appropriate.
Testing -
Reviews requirements and specifications, and defines test conditions. Designs test cases and test scripts under own direction, mapping back to pre-determined criteria, recording and reporting outcomes. Analyses and reports test activities and results. Identifies and reports issues and risks associated with own work.
Release and Deployment
- Uses the tools and techniques for specific areas of release and deployment activities. Administers the recording of activities, logging of results and documents technical activity undertaken. May carry out early life support activities such as providing support advice to initial users.
