Profile
Description:
The University of Plymouth (UoP) has an exciting opportunity to be part of a new, progressive, and cutting-edge area of research as part of its Centre for Health Technology. You will work across two projects: GOALD and EPIC for two years. See the websites for both projects to find out more. The split across the two projects is approximately half EPIC and half GOALD for the first year and 100% GOALD for the second year. You would work with Research Associate Leonie Cooper who also has a ‘split post’. On GOALD you would work with Research Fellow Dr Hannah Bradwell, part time Media and Administration Officer Rose Wilmot, and Plymouth academic lead Professor Ray Jones as well as other Plymouth academics, and a research team at Stirling University. GOALD is funded by the UKRI Healthy Ageing Challenge Social, Behavioural and Design Research Programme managed by the ESRC. On EPIC you would work with a team of researchers engaging and supporting small companies in Cornwall to develop new eHealth and wellbeing products and services and report to Project Manager Jay Amies. In particular, you would work with our GOALD community partners (iSight Cornwall, Hearing Loss Cornwall, Cornwall Rural Community Charity, Nudge, South Asian Society) supporting inter-generational co-design workshops to design products and services that keep older people active. In EPIC you would work with the wider team but particularly aim to identify and support companies that can provide suitable products and services for GOALD. In general, you will undertake research and evaluation, qualitative and quantitative data analysis. You will work with care homes and partner organisations. You will plan and write academic papers and reports as well as material for policy audience, and attend and present at relevant conferences. You will possess a relevant first degree and preferably be studying for a PhD in Social Science/Psychology discipline or a related field of study but with a good understanding of digital health. We have a particular interest in Virtual Reality and Robotics. You will have a track record of working collaboratively with care homes and patient and community groups. Knowledge of Cornwall will be a major advantage. A current full driving licence and willingness to travel is desirable as you may be required to travel to remote areas not easily accessible by public transport. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Professor Ray Jones (****) or Dr Hannah Bradwell (****). We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities. The is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until end December 2023, funded jointly by ERDF and UKRI. Flexible working options including job share will be considered. This role will require a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Interviews are likely to take place on 24th February 2022 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not. The University of Plymouth is a diverse, welcoming community where everyone makes a difference and is encouraged to bring their whole selves to work. To find out more about our inclusive community, initiatives such as Athena Swan and the Race Equality Charter and our range of benefits / support mechanisms such as flexible working, staff networks and enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave please visit our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion webpages We particularly welcome applicants from under-represented groups at the University of Plymouth, such as BAME/BIPOC and LGBT .
