Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Faculty of Health within Peninsula Dental School for a Research Assistant to support research in the Simulated Dental Learning Environment, which is our state of the arts phantom head suite where students learn the clinical skills needed to practice Dentistry. Digital Dentistry is integral to our teaching and assessment and you will be part of a small team evaluating the use of 3-D printed teeth in this setting. You will be making a difference to the training of future dentists and dental therapists. You will be using quantitative and qualitative research methods to investigate the impact of using 3-D teeth in this environment. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos which is supported by our three strategic Research Institutes: the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Earth Institute, and the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. As a member of our academic community, you’ll be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths. You will ideally have experience of carrying out research and will be able to work independently and as part of a team. You will have an analytical and enquiring approach to research but do not need experience of working within Dentistry or of 3-D printing. You will have excellent communication skills and good attention to detail. The Simulated Dental Learning Environment (SDLE) is Peninsula Dental School’s state of the arts simulated skills department in which undergraduate Dentistry and Dental Therapy programmes, as well as post-graduate students, learn. The SDLE technical team support the delivery of all the teaching and assessment.
