**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., Carl H. Lindner College of Business is currently accepting applications for an Academic Adviser. The Undergraduate Programs Office (UPO) is responsible for orientation, retention, academic advising, and the evaluation and maintenance of student records, including degree certification for Carl H. Lindner College of Business undergraduate students. Additionally, the UPO handles the recruitment of transition students and creation and maintenance of online resources and curriculum-related materials that empower students. The UPO is responsible for delivering a mandatory First Year Experience Program to all Lindner freshmen and for addressing and prioritizing issues of enrollment management in areas of course scheduling to meet student need.

 

General Position Description: Embracing the Lindner PACE (Professionalism, Academics, Character, and Engagement) model, this staff member provides academic advising, intervention, support services, and programming to students in the College. He/she utilizes a student-centered and holistic approach to enhance students' likelihood of retention, academic success, persistence and degree completion. The advisor guides students to develop a portfolio of experiences that will enhance their college careers and prepare them for their future professions.

 

The position also requires a high degree of accountability and responsibility. Daily work involves handling information that is often sensitive and confidential in nature: therefore; discretion is of critical importance. The individual will be expected to exercise sound judgment as it relates to dealing with students, faculty, staff, administrative personnel, parents and representatives of outside organizations. This person must be a resourceful, disciplined and detail-oriented individual.

 

Characteristic Duties:

80% Advising Related Functions - Provide academic advising services for Lindner students and prospective students through individual appointments, group advising, walk-in advising, phone calls, email, etc. Utilize the student information system to assist students in constructing academic plans that allow them to make degree progress while observing the prerequisite structure of their chosen program. Apply transfer credit to appropriate degree programs utilizing Lindner decision rules. Support students in making transitions within the University.

Update advising resources as necessary. Assist with freshmen, transfer, and transition orientation programs for domestic and international students. Some evenings will be required.

20% Administrative and Specialized Functions - Assist with instruction of first-year orientation courses during fall and spring semesters. Prepare materials and update student records to assist students with freshmen orientations in summer and for transition/transfer orientations each semester. Represent the UPO on College and University committees as appropriate.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 1-year experience; OR associate degree and 3 years experience; OR 5 years’ experience. Experience must be in advising high school and/or college students or related field.

 

Ideal Qualifications:

* Master’s degree

* Ability to organize and effectively communicate complex information, apply creative solutions and problem solving, and exhibit a strong team orientation, flexibility, and the ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks.

* Skills preferred also include: professionalism, analytical skills, listening/interpersonal communication skills, public speaking, conflict resolution, program development, time management skills, teaching/training, collaboration, good judgment

* Computer skills with a variety of software products (MS Office, BlackBoard, PeopleSoft, etc.).
