Definition of Class
This position oversees the operation of the house (both lobby and audience seating area) during the run of a show or scheduled event. The incumbent prepares the physical space; schedules, trains, and supervises the volunteer ushers; and works closely with the box office and stage manager to handle ticketing concerns and coordination with backstage.
Examples of Work Performed
Prepares the front of house before an event.
Communicates with box office regarding seating and prepare any special seating arrangements.
Assigns volunteers' posts and ensures instructions are clear.
Coordinates with caterers to facilitate set-up of food or drinks.
Ensures merchandise/concession cash boxes are reconciled.
Places photographers and security detail at stations when necessary.
Coordinates details of an event with the other administrative staff to verify details listed on the event calendar.
Secures building before and after events.
Schedules volunteer ushers for events through weekly correspondence.
Schedules annual training session with new and current volunteers.
Recruits and trains new volunteers.
Plans and executes annual Volunteer Appreciation Event at the end of the season.
Serves as a liaison with back stage and tech crews to assist with needs and monitor schedule changes.
Greets visitors and helps acquaint them with the facility.
Assists with selling of merchandise at events as needed.
Ensures patrons are seated in an organized and timely manner before an event.
Monitors receptions before, during, and after events.
Handles miscellaneous administrative tasks and responsibilities.
Maintains and updates Front of House Manager procedure manual.
Performs similar or related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
Education:
Associate's Degree from an accredited two-year college or university.
Experience:
One (1) year of experience related to the above described duties.
Substitution Statement:
Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources
