The Department of Physics in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Lecturer position beginning July 2022. This is a fixed-term, fiscal year (twelve-month) appointment with no tenure implications. Subsequent year renewals (July 1 through June 30
th
) are contingent upon performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit.
The Lecturer will provide instruction primarily in our large undergraduate General Physics Program, supervise teaching assistants, and serve on Department and/or University committees. They will also participate in the development of new develop course materials and act in support of future program plans in conjunction with other faculty and staff.
Specific Responsibilities and Distribution of Effort:
Teaching (90%)
. At the request of the unit chair, teach courses during the academic year responsibilities including classroom instruction, assessment, grading, and office hours.
Service (10%)
. Supervise and mentor the department's graduate Teaching Assistants. In addition to managing the day-to-day issues that may arise, this includes ensuring that each TA is well matched to the assigned class.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in physics or related field by time of appointment
Effective teaching ability as evidenced by peer and/or student reviews
Evidence of organization and communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
2-4 years educational experience at the university level
Experience in developing, leading student groups in higher education
Prior evidence of effective teaching at a range of levels
Experience working with diverse student populations
Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting the participation of women and underrepresented minorities
Multimedia presentation skills and aptitude for using emerging technologies in content delivery
