THIS IS A RE-ADVERTISEMENT, PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLY
We are seeking a Post-doctoral Scientist with strong immunology background to take up a position in Prof Ling-Pei Ho's Translational Lung Immunology group at the MRC Human Immunology Unit, Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. The successful candidate will join a growing programme in immune mechanisms of lung fibrosis and alveolar regeneration in chronic lung fibrosis, with a bridge to testing new immuno-modulatory therapeutic targets in innovative early phase trials. There is also a nascent project on inflammaging in chronic lung fibrosis within the group. There is good link to human samples and established murine programme.
The successful candidate will work on a project to understand immune drivers of fibrotic lung diseases, focusing on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and fibrotic sarcoidosis. While our work have hitherto focused on monocytes and macrophages, this is now expanding to include all other immune cells, as emergent single cell transcriptomic data in IPF show wider abnormalities in T cells and NK cells. In this project, emphasis will be on functional immunology studies, building new human lung organoids with new 3D bioinstructive materials and inducible progenitors (in collaboration with Hannan/Stevens; Nottingham/Imperial) and relevant transgenic murine studies. The studies will test, define and conclude on hypotheses around how CD4 effector T cells and senescent CD8 T cells might influence lung and bone marrow resident cells in progressing fibrosis. There will be opportunities to use and further develop high end immunological technologies e.g. CYTOF, single cell mass cytometry imaging (Tissue Hyperion) and high resolution cryoEM (in collaboration with Oxford Structural Biology Unit). Large, good quality sets of single cell transcriptomic data from human IPF lungs and longitudinal murine model of resolving lung fibrosis have been generated, and can be mined to support work going forward with dedicated bioinformatics support.
Candidates who have some experience in bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic data will be particularly desirable.
You will be based in the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford
The post is fixed term for up to 3 years and is being offered on a full-time basis.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.
Only applications received before 12:00 midday on 30 March 2022 will be considered.
