Description
Under direction of the Director of Facilities, the Genera Maintenance Worker performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of District facilities and equipment as assigned; perform preventive maintenance and service of heating, ventilating and air conditioning system, assist skilled trades workers in the construction, repair and maintenance of District facilities as assigned or required.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work, including plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning, in the maintenance and repair of District facilities.
Monitor the heating, ventilating and air conditioning system; check dampers, lubricate system and change filters or perform other preventive maintenance as needed; maintain service and repair records on HVAC system.
Check boilers or chillers daily, depending on season, and troubleshoot systems as necessary; check bathrooms daily for sink or toilet leaks and stoppages and repair as needed.
Assist skilled trades workers in the construction, repair and maintenance of District facilities as assigned or required; train and provide work direction to helpers as assigned.
Maintain and operate swimming pool equipment; perform tests and make necessary adjustments; maintain cleanliness of pool and pool area.
Assist in setting forms, mixing, pouring and finishing concrete; unclog sewer back-ups.
Operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment; maintain equipment, tools and work area in a safe, clean and working condition.
Drive to other District locations to perform work.
Maintain work and material records as required.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and/or education/training to perform the expected job responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of: Methods, procedures, equipment, tools and materials used to perform unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance work.
Health and safety regulations.
Assist skilled trades in construction, repair and maintenance of facilities.
Learn safety codes and regulations.
Perform heavy manual labor.
Operate various hand and power tools/equipment used in construction and maintenance work, such as saws, pipe threaders and rotor hammers.
Maintain simple records.
Train and provide work direction to others.
Maintain a pattern of reliable attendance and work performance.
Quickly learn the schedules, procedures, equipment and supplies for assigned work.
Perform assigned work within established time schedule.
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
Demonstrate a sensitivity to relate to persons with diverse socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including the disabled.
Observe health and safety rules and regulations.
