MED TECHNOLOGIST STUDENT - LABORATORY - PRN','Part-time','Clinical Support','PRN','PRN','0','0','Occasional','Occasional','ARKANSAS-LITTLE ROCK-ST VINCENT INFIRMARY','','!*!JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of laboratory tests for analysis: provides data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease; maintains working knowledge of theories involved in testing. With increasing experience, performs specialized tests requiring a high degree of expertise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operational
Receives and processes specimens for laboratory analysis; maintains integrity of specimens and insure proper patient identification.
Efficiently uses supplies, reagents and material through effective cost-control measures.
Keeps abreast of all chemical and safety hazards for all procedures performed; inform supervisor of any unsafe conditions, injuries or accidents.
Inventories orders and stocks supplies as needed.
Communications
Communicates with other professionals regarding specimen acceptability, test results, abnormal findings, promoting positive relationships at all levels.
Ensures proper posting of patient charges; maintains thorough working knowledge of the hospital and department computer system.
Reports test results accurately through computer and manual requisitions; collates data for clinical interpretation, recognizing and reporting critical data expediently.
Maintains acceptable phone and interpersonal communication skills at all times.
Technical
Prepares and properly labels reagents and solutions as required, utilizing basic manual skills.
Conducts tests with minimal supervision according to department guidelines.
Performs and records quality control as indicated by department policy, recognizes outlying results, and takes corrective action as necessary.
Operates and maintains specialized laboratory equipment, performs routine maintenance, and notifies supervisor of necessary repairs.
Maintains a working knowledge of all tests in the departmental procedure manual, ensuring proficiency in all technical areas.
Keeps abreast of and follows infectious disease precautions.','!*!MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Completion of all prerequisite courses for graduation from an accredited Medical Technology program as well as successful completion of a clinical internship in the section of the laboratory where they will be assigned.
Physical Requirements: This job requires, at various times, the following physical activities; climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, talking, and hearing, sometimes exerting in excess of 10 – 50 pounds of force.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform daily activities.
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to chemicals), and infectious diseases.
Skills: Must possess good communication skills. Must possess thorough understanding of laboratory procedures and manuals. Must possess good organizational skills. Must be able to read and understand complex instructions. Must be able to perform mathematical computations.
